Colofac 200mg

Posted , 5 users are following.

Finally been given some new meds for my ibs - only been trying since February and they refused until colonoscopy completed.

I've seen various threads on colofac 135mg but I have been given the 200mg version to take twice a day.

I will be using it for mainly diahorrea and wind symptoms - anyone have any joy with them?

As far as i remember colofac is a brand name for mebeverane. It is an antispasmodic, so may help with bloating a little bit but it's mainly for cramps. Won't do anything for diarrhoea

You are correct with the brand name the leaflet says it helps all symptoms of ibs including diahorrea?

As far as i know mebeverane is purely an antispasmodic. In slowing down the intestinal spasms it could help the diarrhoea be less violent (excuse the bluntness lol) but it won't stop it. For that you need a bulking fibre supplement or immodium.

I know someone with IBS who takes Colofac and she said it stopped her diarrhoea. Everyone has different reactions.  However, it is still Mebeverine which is a known stomach irritant.

Hi Dorset. check the leaflet or wikipedia; if it says its an "anti cholinergic" medication it may help the diarrea too. i am on a combination of 2 "anti cholinergic" meds: amitryptilline 20mg nightly & buscopan 2 tablets with every meal (twice a day) & they have greatly reduced my diarrea. anti cholinergic meds slow down the part of the brain that controls digestion/bowels, so for me they have to slow down my digestion/bowels & thus reduced the pain (the more bowel movements i had, the worse the pain got).  i had this explained by my consultant & an occ health doctor as well as researching info myself on wikipedia. hope this helps. x
