Hi

?I have been having loose stools for some time now. They change shape and consistency almost every time I go to the toilet. They are worse under stress and sometimes thin. I have never seen blood and don't have any abdominal pain. Doctor has put it down to IBS but am really worried I am missing something. I do struggle with anxiety. Is it possible to have mild IBS or IBS without any pain?

    Hi there Bigbird,

When I first developed IBS I only had the change in bowel movements with no pain whatsoever. I could have five bowel movements a day and all would vary in consistency. I did on occasion get bloated and very gassy. So yes it is possibly not to get cramping and pain.

My GP has said that over time the bowel becomes more sensitive and something about pain receptor's......

It's hard not to get anxious especially when we read all the possibly causes of our complaint and in our heads decide it's the worst case scenario.

    Regards

    Bear.

Hi yes it's very possible to have mild IBS... listen to your doctor. I had mild IBS on and off for 6 months but the worry of it cause my anxiety and stress to increase which caused my IBS to get much much worse. I battled with it everyday for over 18.months finally demanding a colonoscopy i was convinced I had bowl cancer.... I was all clear and my baf IBS disappeared almost overnight..

Try to reduce your worry... Tey to belive your doctor. The symptoms you discribe shouldn't worry you if your doctor isn't worried.

You could have mild IBS but usually IBS causes pain.  I have never heard of IBS without pain.   I would see your doctor again and ask for tests.  Everyone is different with symptoms, but the main symptom of IBS is pain.

Ibs symptoms differ from person to person. Some only cause dhierria or loose stool without significant pain.

I was diagnosed with IBS years ago, however only recently has it started giving me mild pain pretty much daily. I think over time it just wears on the pain receptors like Bear said. I have my wellness check next month, and will probably be getting a colonoscopy just for peace of mind.
