Colonoscopy Results-worried

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am 28 years old and had a colonoscopy due to abdominal pain and a polyp found on a CAT scan. My GI doctor found 4 total polyps during my exam and removed all of them and sent to get a biopsy. Immediately after my appointment, they scheduled a follow up visit with me to go over the results of the biopsy. My appointment is 1 week away and I received an automated message saying they needed to change my appointment. When I called back, the nurse was very confused as she said that my appt was fine but she would check with someone. After being on hold for awhile, she redirected me to scheduling and they scheduled me a different appointment. When I looked on my patient portal, I noticed it is with a completely different doctor. Is this something to worry about? Why would a new doctor go over results with me? And why was the nurse confused as to why I had to change my appointment? I wasn't nervous...until now.

There is probably an explanation for the change, such as the original Dr not being available any more. The appointment system is a very busy one, so sometimes they loose a patient off the system altogether!

Try not to worry. Hope it all goes well.

In my experience, hospital booking systems go awry from time to time and though frustrating there is unlikely to be anything sinister behind the change of appointment. It is not unusual to be assigned to one doctor for consultations but to have an endoscopy carried about by another or vice versa. They work as a team in that respect and work shifts in theatre. If you would prefer to see a particular doctor you should be able find a number for his or her secretary on the website for your local health trust. They will have management of the doctor’s diary so call her to discuss your concerns.

It's far more likely to be an administrative reason than anything else. Have you looked the doctor up to see what he specialises in?
