Colonoscopy soon - can this pick up gluten intolerance or not?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks for issues relating to long term constipation that has gone from bad to worse in the past 2 years. Have been checked for thyroid - it's not that - but I do have a lot of symptoms that match gluten intolerance ( very similar to thyroid issues) - however I have found out this is usually done in an endoscopy - not the other end! Kind of glad not to have endoscopy as I had a fundoplication a couple of years ago - and can no longer be sick!

I have that problem with constipation are you sure it's a gluten problem? Are you taking any kind of supplements cause that can cause that also taking iron tablets definitely can cause alot of constipation. I had a colonoscopy done last month and I got a polyp that needs removed hopefully this new doctor takes it out which I am sure he will the doctor who did the colonoscopy for some reason can not take out poylps I which I knew this before I went ahead and had that done.

      Hi Patty,

Not taking any supplements - just HRT - which is same dose I was on pre-hysterectomy and I take laxido every day to keep things moving! I eat in excess of 25g of fibre each day as well as drinking at least 2 litres of water . If I did not take Laxido I would not be able to go for days on end and when I did it was just pellets - not great! I had my thyroid tested because I get really exhausted, feel the cool at lot, have dry skin and brittle nails, find it hard to lose weight, am keeping it steady just now - but I have to exercise a lot! I do get quite ill after eating on occasion - have had a hiatus hernia repair - so I don't get acid so much anymore - but I now get this awful shivery feeling with a bad head and flu like symptoms. I believe you can get constipation with gluten intolerance - but it could be IBS - hoping the scope will find out!
