colonoscopy the aftermath!!

Hi guys, had a colonoscopy on Tuesday, which I found very difficult even with pain relief and sedation, since having it done I have been house bound, can't even take my daughter to school, tried the other day but ended up having an accident, I can not keep it in!! Going to the loo constantly diarrhoea and lots of stomach pains on the left side. My colonoscopy report says proctitis and ileitis and crohns, when after previous poking about with a camera they told me UC so a little confused right now, I have to wait for results from GP but dose anyone know anything about what I have mentioned?? And how do I get this flare up after procedure to settle down???? Any help would be great 😂 I'm on medication yet, just so used know . Thanks in advance x

    Hi Nicola

since Marie was diagnosed with UC she suffered pretty much the same as you then with the help of the enemas it started to ease up a bit but this process took about 4 to 5 days then not as much diarrhoea, I hope it settles down for you as well.

Hi, thanks for reply, what are enemas?? I always thought that was something to make u go? Lol I haven't been told anything from doctors yet, I don't even know what I should and shouldn't be eating!! Dose Marie eat veg?? Can she it it raw if so, like spinach and carrots? Been eating chicken, sweet potatoes and small amount of veg, omelette s and rice cakes since colonoscopy but it's still going right through me, 😲 x

      Hi Nicola,

When you asked what are enemas I got the Instructions from the box so I can pronounce it corretly.

They are Pentasa Mesalazine Enema which is injected anally, but is well worth a try, but check with your gp first

                         Good luck

Omg that's terrible, was u sedated as well? I don't understand why they can't just knock you out completely, everyone seems to have problems with it!! I'm a single mum to a 2 year old and 11 year old and I find it very hard, my daughter has to get the bus to school now as I can't take her because I did have an accident this week, it's soul destroying!!! I hope you start to have improvements soon. Take care Nicci x

No I wasn't sedated .They said I was going to be. But as I have heart problems as well ,I think they thought better of it.People were telling me that I would feel a little tipsy as if I had had a drink. But I was waiting to feel tha,t and I never did.just complete pain.We must keep plodding on Nicola xx

Hi Nicola.the enama is a foam that you have to give yourself.or nurses will come if you can't do it.the foam puts a lining over the ulcers so when anything is passing through it dos'nt bleed.you have to do it for about a month before results .good luck x

I would probably take loperamide several times a day to try slow down activity of bowel. If you can get cocodamol 15 or 30/500 I would take it regularly for pain. I have found psyllium husk and psyllium seed both available online to be a godsend. If u want any more info on them or are interested in them ask me or Google them online. I don't know what your diet is like at mo so don't no if there are things aggravating it. What meds are u on ?

Hello. I'm not on any meds yet, still waiting for result before I can go to doctor and see what happens now, I'm interested in more info on psyllium husk, how do us eat it, do u add to food?? I'm just trying to eat leaner meat, cutting out caffeine, drinking green tea and actimil drinks at the moment, was helping g a bit up until colonoscopy but have had very upset Insides since procedure!! Thank for reply x

I put 2 teaspoons of seed and 1 of husk into glass of water  and let it sit for bout half hour. It gelifies. U can top it up with more water at the half hour to dilute it some more if u wish. I had colonoscopy yest which has left me bit sore some watery type blood diarrhoea etc. I have actually upped the dose to 3 seed and 2 husk twice a day and thankfully it appears to be settling it. I don't no about the actimel....these things usually contain sugar which is not particular great.. I got L glutamine online which is supposed to be useful with healing. Only started it several days ago so reserving judgement at present. The husk eg Lepicol with probiotics u can buy in health food shops. The seeds I could only get online at well known shopping arena. Check as there are 2 available sources. The postage for one is more expensive than other. The seeds are very reasonable price wise to purchase. Don't forget loperamide few times a day .u can buy these in well known supermarkets if u don't get them on script. They are much cheaper under this brand name in supermarkets. Any more queries I will happily answer re this.

Unfortunately for myself yesterday on doing colonoscopy the doc could only get up 30 cms when he hit upon stricture ...narrowing of bowel...had routine biopsies and will have to have surgery to to remove this...not looking forward to it but it is as it is !

Sorry that went to Nicola...slows down transit time in bowel ....means less absorption of foods meds etc....3 or more movements in day can mean less absorption I read some where. Must say so far seems to be working for me...I could have went 5 plus times per day .....scundered with that amount

It slows down transit time in bowel.. Mine can work overtime so need to slow it down for absorption of food meds etc.Apparently read some place any more than 3 movements could mean less absorption.
