Going sound a strange one.

My son(19) has stomach issue. Not exactly ibs but similar symptoms. So was given Colpermin by GP, Anyway for first 4/5 months they worked great. Then we started to noticed he was getting a lot more side effects . We continued with tablets but have now he is telling us, when ever he takes one he feels extremely angry. Anyone ever heard of this.The packet and google say nothing about mood swings as a side effect.

Has anyone heard of this?

    Hi Michelle,this is a very strange side effects to get like mood swings.All i can suggest is go back to your gp and let him check your son out.

    I can't find anything about mood swings and Colpermin either. Does you son take any other medications such as anti depressants which can cause mood swings? If he is on any other medications apart from anti depressants,, he should check the patient leaflet to see if mood swings are one of the side effects. Gut disorders, including IBS, can cause mood disorders such as anxiety and depression because of the toll the symptoms have on the body.

    I take Colpermin myself and am fine with them.

    Maybe he is just angry and frustrated at having to take these tablets at such a young age.

    I think it is more likely to be related to stomach problems rather than the tablets themselves, but I am not qualified to give advice and could well be wrong.

    Thanks all its as you reoughly said

    The doctor was on the phone today on an another matter, Anyway took the chance to ask her about it she thinks its a mood swing not related to the meds but the feeling of anger and depression due to stomach issues and being in pain so much

    As he doesnt Take other meds and these werent making that much of a difference anyway. She said she be happy enough for him to stop

    Once again thanks all, Its hard as a parent to see him in pain and not been able to help

    she also said as he cant digest food correctly just now they could be sitting in the Gillet burning the gillet so to stop for this reason to
