Colposcopy & HPV Worry

Posted , 3 users are following.

I went for my usual 3 yearly smear and got a letter to say that they have found abnormal cells, I was checked for HPV and found to be positive, I didn't even know what HPV was!! I have had problems with my periods all my life and have poly cystic ovaries which developed after my daughter was born, the letter said book in now, so I did, but they cant fit me in till July!!!

Im nervous and a little scared about the procedure and about the results, is there anyone out there with a similar story who can put my mind at ease? I past out having a mirena IUD fitted so the thought of someone poking around for 20 minutes and possibly biopsying me is more than a little unnerving!! I'm in North Yorkshire.

    Hi Tally

I'm just waiting for my advised referral to arrive with GP so she can arrange. If it's too long I'm going with my private health care through work.

I've had mild cramping and slight bleeding today

Not as anxious as beginning of week based on talking to others.

Try not to worry chick I'm at same stage as you. The waiting game.

Will let you know when I get my appt xx

I'm having a Colposcopy on 21st August, and am extremely nervous too.

I watched the procedure on Youtube and nearly passed out so don't know how I'll cope on the day!

I too am scared about the result of the test, I'm a single parent who works full time, I rent privately so everything depends on me.

I had my initial smear in June, got the result letter a week and a half later and an appointment letter about a week after that.  To say its been a worrying wait is an understatement.

I've only told a few people, they've said not to worry as they'd have booked me in sooner if there was a major problem.

I can't help worrying that if there is something wrong it could be worsening while I wait!.

Keep me posted on how you get on.  x
