Coming Off Amitriptyline and Weight Changes

Hello Everyone,
I've been on the medication (50mg) for just over a year, during which time i gained over a stone in weight, despite healthy diet and keeping active. As I've had enough and planning to come off it (or else i'd have to change my entire wardrobe), just wondered if anyone experienced the same but lost the additional KGs naturally after coming off it? Or was it a struggle?
I am also aware of the withdrawal symptoms, so will have to soldier through them

I have to take this medication for my Psoriatic Arthritis, also pain medications. Personally I have the same problems with weight, although I do not know if it is to do with above or my restricted movement. I take anything around 50mg to 75mg to control nerve pain, I also take Cox 2 medications and Opiates when needed.
When I drop down my dose of Amytryptalene sorry for spelling I do not suffer any addiction side effects I was trained by a Pain Clinic how to take and reduce my doses and that has helped me live with medications over the last thirty years
The problem with this drug is 50/75mg is classed as a small dose of this medication, I was told to reduce the dose using 10mg/ 25mg talets to reduce the dose. I had to come of the medication for a time when having an operation and I did not really have problems with withdrawal. It was at a 10mg cut off and they expected me of the drug at 10mg, a very low dose.
If you are taking other medications discuss the withdrawal with your GP before you start, my GP looked at a dose of 100mg as a moderate dose although I did not bring this up with my current practice.

Hi Marta.
Just read your question. And I am exactly the same. I have been on Amitriptyline for nearly 3 years. I am on 25mg I went up to 50mg but I felt like a zombie, so I cut down back to 25mg. I have put on a stone in weight to. I really want to cut down. Everytime I try I get really anxious and can't sleep. I only went down to 20mg I didn't think it would have a huge effect. It's only a 5mg drop. I know exactly how you feel.
Have you managed to cut down

I came off it weeks ago and also had trouble falling asleep or staying asleep at night, but found Melotinin (5-10mg) or Valerian (holland and barrett) to be very helpful- I sleep like a baby. Give those a go!

I have been tapering off Amit for the last 6 months, and have lost 13lbs without really trying. The nausea assisted with this, plus my food cravings have reduced and I need less food. Just have another 30lbs to go and have taken advice off the citalorapram forum to stop all white carbs which in hinesight is what I was craving. All the best to you with coming off amit.
