Coming off fluoxetine

hi,

i have been on 20mg flu. for 2.5 years. a couple of weeks ago i i was on holiday and like so many of you have done, forgotten to take them and i also felt fine so i decided to stay off them that wasnt to continue. This site has been such a big help, i though i was going insane. it started 3 days ago with what i thought were cold symptoms at first (feeling a bit bunged up, tiredness and aching joints. then Saturday night i started getting really bad dizzy spells and shivering violently. i ran myself a nice warm bath which was possibly one of the worst things i have ever done. i was actually shivering in the warm bath, then when i got out it was so painful my body was shaking that much i was unable to move i stood there and not ashamed to admit it just broke down in tears. The reason i have decided to post on here is because last night when laid in bed i developed someone which i am wondering if anyone else has had as its really beginning to scare me now. it i cant stop shouting out loud and talking to my self it will just come upon me and i cant control it. Has anyone else suffered with this, if so do you have any advice?

a desperate Steve

    hi steve

you needed to come down slowly from 20 to 10 to 5. which i did.sounds like withdrawal.i feel so sorry for you.goback to docs and he may be able to give you summat to calm you a bit. while things settle down.i am on diazepam when things get tough.start of week 5 i am still having horrible anxiety.been on 20mg of fluox but last 7 days been put on 40mg. I think things are going in right direction.i stopped taking mine end of May after 5 years.worst thing i did.felt like i was losing my mind first weeks.maybe go back on them and be kind to yourself.take one day at a time you will get there they say it takes 4 weeks to fully feel the effects. good luck

Hiya I have had something similar and i really sympathise with you. decided to come off fluoxetine as i was told it interacted with a drug i take. stupidly went from 30 to zero for 5 days then thought perhaps that was too sudden so increased to 10. After 24 days of reducing period I started to feel awful, panicky anxious scared sweaty restless, worst in the morning. Was on holiday and basically had to come home and go to docs. i had bad stomach pains too and not sure if related but could be cause of stress. Doc gave me diazepan to relax and buscopan for tummy. My plane was to change to citalopram but now i feel i should up the fluoxetine to 20mg for couple of months and start again. I thought i was fine and could come off fluoxetine but never want this exoerience again it is quite scary. Let me know how you get on. perhaps you should start taking it again. Maybe discuss with your doctor.
