Coming off Gabapentin cold turkey.

Posted , 5 users are following.

I've been taking Gabapentin since 2013. I take a total of 2400 mg and now I have to stop cold turkey because my workman's comp insurance denied the coverage of the medication now. I am just curious on what I have to look forward to? Has anyone stopped that amount with no taper at all? I have a back injury and a neck injury and that is why I was put on the medication to help with the nerve pain. Does coming off this medication mess with you psychologically? Any input will help. Thank you

I would taper if you can. I just looked up the med on the GoodRx app and they are around 12 bucks per 90. If you do need to forgo the med, gets some good magnesium to help you ween off. Magnesium will relax you.

Thank you very much for your input. I had no idea that magnesium actually relaxes you. That is very good to know. To get my normal dose it's just under $200 per script. You found the medication on GoodRx? Can I actually order from them direct or do I have to have a prescription from my doctor? If you don't know it's okay I was just curious. Thank you again for your input

The good RX app shows you where to buy the cheep meds. You do need a prescription however.

No matter which one you choose, it's not going to be easy!  When I tried to taper off it I felt like I had been run over by a train!  I had the withdrawals from the gabi, plus I had the pain back that I had before.  So I am back on the gabi now.  The best of two evils!  😟

    Hi

I'm fortunate enough to be in the UK whereby we have National health,so I didn't have to pay for meds.

Personal experience of this drug says please don't just stop.youll be bad.Cant you get some whereby you can come off them slowly. You shouldn't just stop

I had to lower mine slowly until I got off them I still got withdrawal symptoms from them which was really hard, but I persevered through it , and can finally say I'm past the worst part.

I wish you all the best, but promise you'll do it gradually

Good advice to go slow. There is withdrawal. I was on a low dose 300mg for couple months and didn't like how I felt so tapered myself off. Day 6 off the med now and still bad withdrawal symptoms. Please go slow if can.
