Coming off HRT

I have been on HRT for three years, as I am coming up to sixty my doctor advised  me to come off the HRT. Since I have been off it, I have suffered with really bad period pains.(no sign of any bleeding though). If there anyone out there who has also suffered in this way I would love to hear from you.

Hi Nina.Thank you  for your reply, can I ask how long the period pain lasted after you stopped taking the HRT. So far you are the only one who seems to have suffered the same symptoms as myself.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Jenny my period pains were constant and as I had not had a period for 4 years I was quite concerned  as I take Tibolone which stops the bleed it's quite frightening was happens so suddenly so pleased I have gone back on them .

Hi Jenny, why did your GP ask you to stop? I have been using Evorel conti patch for 13 years since I was 52. For the last 6 years or so I was using half a patch and comfirtsble. Last year my GP asked me to stop. I didn't want to but felt a bit pressurised. Then the NICE guidelines were published in November and it is safe to take HRT. I started to wean off my patches and within days my hot flushes came back with a vengeance it was so bad that after a couple of weeks I put a whole patch on! But after a couple of months I started spotting and then hit a period coupled with period pains.! I cut the patch down by a third and am seeing if that settles me down. I wish some GP's would come into the 21st century. If you feel you need HRT then put your foot down, it's your body. Sorry for the long post! Rant over.

Hi ladies! pat, I'm with you on putting your foot down. Like a nice girl (I'm 68) I did as my doctor told me to do - cut way back on my Estradiol to almost nothing. I decided to gradually tapper down and by the 8th month I had hot flushes, panic attacks, depression-thinking I was losing my mind, fatigue. I have spent two years trying to get readjusted to my HRT. I changed OBGYN's and my new one did bloodwork to discover I was extremely low in estrogen. We had a lengthy discussion on this and he told me no woman is the same. Some need them and some do not.....obviously I need them. Learned my lesson the hard way - listen to your own body.
