Coming off sertraline. Advice please
Posted , 6 users are following.
I have decided to start the weaning process of coming off sertraline after being on it for two years. It has helped me get back to where i needed to be but i feel its time to come off it and start getting my weight loss journey in full swing since this medication tends to fight any weight loss unfortunately. So I am asking for any tips, advice or experiences with coming off this. I am currently on 50 mg, was on 62.5mg but started yesterday and cut out taking the half pill. So far so good. TIA

Talk to your Doctor before you start in seriousness , reduction and complete withdrawal is best managed like that as you have been on medication for a period of two years.
I have started medication reductions a while ago, and I start again very soon to stop some more medications, because of my age. It is important you withdraw for the right reasons and expectations.
Gain help and run with your withdrawal

When I came off from 100mg a month before the withdrawal process I started taking omega 3 6 9, 1 capsual 3 times a day and a good multivit that basically has everything in it. Then I went from 100 to 87 for a month 75 month 67 month 50 month 37 month 25 month 12 month 6 month the only real side effect was when I went from 100 to 87 which lasted for 3 or so days. While on 25 I started taking a hybrid cbd oil in the evening gradually working it into the morning while on the 12-6 mg months. Hopefully be staying on with the cbd oil for my anxiety along with the omega oil and vitamins. I also started drinking raw apple cider vinegar as this helps with your gut which I am told is your second brain. Hope this helps, but remember everyone is different so what works for me maybe different for someone else.

I TAKE A ACV TABLET EVERY MORNING AND IT HAS HELPED MY HEALTH OVERALL SINCE STARTING IT 3 MONTHS AGO. MY INTENTION IS TO TAKE IT BY MONTH AND SEE HOW I FEEL. TODAY AND YESTERDAY HAS BEEN CHEST PAIN/TIGHTNESS AND THIS IS DAY FOUR OF MY TAPER, SO I HOPE IT PASSES SOON. WHAT SIDE EFFECT DID U EXPERIENCE? AND WHAT CBD OIL DO YOU USE?

I AM NOT SURE. MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED A LOW DOSE WHEN I STARTED BUT IT MAY DEPEND ON BRAND, I AM NOT SURE

Please, please, please, be careful. I don't know how severely impacted you were by your anxiety or depression, but know this, you run the risk of getting all those symptoms back if you do not do this carefully. I should know, I've stopped 5 times! Unfortunately for me, I've had to go back on my meds every single time. I made all the mistakes from stopping too soon after being stable, to no tapering, to tapering too quickly. Even after I tapered very slowly and very carefully I still had a relapse after a stressful event.
Please understand that I am not trying to discourage you, but to only warn you of the possibility that may occur. You need to go into this with your eyes open. I personally can no longer risk having a relapse. I've literally jeopardized my life the last time I came off my medication and only now have started to feel like myself again. The cost for me is too great.
I wish you the best...

I WAS PUT ON THIS MEDICATION DUE TO ANOTHER DOCTOR PUTTING ME ON A MED I SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN PUT ON AND CAUSED ME TO DEVELOP ANXIETY FROM IT, NEVER HAD ANXIETY UNTIL THAT DOCTOR SCREWED MY LIFE AND HEALTH UP, MY CURRENT DOCTOR AGREES ITS TIME AND I AM WELL AWARE OF THE RISKS AND THE HELL THAT COMES FROM COMING OFF THESE MEDS. I AM ALSO AWARE OF THE RISKS OF STAYING ON THESE MEDS TOO, BUT I DO APPRECIATE THE CONCERN

your body will crave more, no matter what the drug is, your body will adapt to the dosage and then itll stop working and u r left with the same misery u started the medicine for, its a neverending cycle, am i saying it doesnt help, no, but doctors- well most good ones- will tell you to not stay on them long term, but if someone needs them then thats ok too, i am just choosing to take myself off of them, with doctors approval, cause i feel that i am ready to, if i need them again, yes i will go to them again but i choose not to be on a med long term cause i dont believe our bodies are meant to be on the meds. changing diets and lifestyles back to the way our ancestors way of living is the way i am going, getting rid of the bad foods/carbs and processed crap cuz its all toxic. My experience over the past 5 years with meds and doctors i have seen and experienced what it all does to our bodies and i do not like it and i dont want to rely on meds if i dont need them. SORRY FOR THE RANT

I did not know how well informed you were and was worried that you did not fully understand the implications of your decision. As you can see from my post, I too was anti-med. I have not met to many other people who have put themselves through hell 5 times to prove a point that they needed medication. It certainly was not fun, trust me. I do know people who have been able to successfully wean off and stay off for a number of years. I wish you the best...

Lois,
Have your mother and friends been on the same meds and dosages for all these years or did they have to change? I need encouragement that I'm not going to poop out with my meds in the near future. I don't think I can survive a complete switch if that happens.

same dosage same med and never wean off of it for all those years.the drama starts for some folks when they wean n then go back etc.that yoying effect that your brain experiences with the start ups and then the weaning withdrwals etc.that is what causes havoc on your nervous system.

Thanks. I don't plan to mess with my medication anymore if I can help it. Knowing this gives me some reassurance.
