Coming off sertraline , need advice HELP!

Been on sertraline for 6 & a half months now after having my beautiful baby girl who is now 7 months. I started on 50g in December which was increased to 100mg in February. I had the doc on Thursday & he says im ready to come off so only have 6 left - i have to take 1 every 2nd day then miss a day till they are done. Has anyone else come off like this ? I just want to make sure it's right as i thought i would be reduced to 50mg then taken off them?

    Goodness..no!

What to come off them with 6 tablets?

My experience has been in coming off Seroxat, not Sertraline, but I know that all SSRI's should be tapered slowly to avoid any unpleasant withdrawal.

Could you not check on this?

    Good luck.

Thanx i wondered if it was too early, i did think i would have to be at least reduced down to 50mg then taken off them slowly! I have a group for PND today so i think i might say to the health visitor & see what they say. I really dont like going bk to my GP & saying he was wrong but i dont want to end up bk @ the start especially through no fault of my own!

    Hi,

I found the best way was veryyyyy slowly, I missed one every three days for about 3 weeks, then missed one every other day for about 2/3 weeks, then took one every three days for about a week, then stopped. I didn't have any withdrawl problems. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, i'm not sure what to do cause i dont want to go back to the GP. I spoke to the health visitors yesterday & they said that every med is different for coming off & if i have any concerns i should really talk to my GP as he prescribed them or see a pharmacist they might be able to advise, but my GP should have got it right as he prescribed them??

I'm afraid my experience with GP's shows them to be pretty clueless in just how to get off SSRI's.

To do it quickly can cause terrible withdrawal.

I hope you can get some better advice from a professional?

    Good luck to you.

    Thanx for everyones advice.

I have made an appointment( could only get a phone appointment) with my GP.

I aint had a cry for at least 2 months but come Tuesday i just cried all day, I'm also back to not eating either.

Wednesday no tears, managed to eat food but had butterflies in my tummy all day. Thursday well i'm up but nae dressed or eating yet but no tears yippee.

Suppose i will just have to wait & see what my doc says.
