Coming off Setraline

Hello everyone,

I have been slowly taking myself off Setraline (in co-operation with my doctor) for the last month or so - stepping down from 100mg, to 50mg, to 25mg and from Friday last week I have not eaten any.

Over the weekend and particularly today, I have been suffering with a 'dizzy' head. I don't feel like Im going to faint - it is more a feeling that comes over me once or twice a minute and lasts only a few seconds. Like a 'spaced out' feeling.

Im also extremely low... I have cried twice today for nearly no reason whatsoever - just because I feel like crap and want to be happy again (not that I was particularly happy when I was taking Setralin).

Has anyone else experienced this 'dizzy' feeling, and how long should I persevere without Setraline (I don't want to start taking them again - I want to get better without drugs).

Any help greatly appreciated!!

    Hello

I was on sertraline and came off them to go onto citolapram, it took me around a month to get back to normal, all i wanted to do was sleep, i never got the dizziness though. smile

I did manage to stay off Setraline and the dizziness did go away after a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, I never got happy again. I was very depressed, irritable and sad. I went back to my doctor and he put me on citolapram as well... Ive only been taking it for about 4 days now but I think I feel a little bit better - although the same as you, Shim1978 - soooo tired!!!!! I just want to sleep!!!!!

Ive also been referred to a therapist who Im hoping can help the cause of the problem so one day I wont need any drugs.

Stick with it Lisa8 - the dizziness does stop! Good luck x

Citolapram didn't work for me but that doesn't mean they wont for you, i think its because i went from 100mg of sertraline to 20mg citolapram, i was on them for maybe just under a year but i kept on having panic attacks and my anxietys were coming out too much so ive gone back on the sertraline and so far so good.

I have now been off Sertraline for 2 1/2 weeks and i'm getting better every day. The dizzy spells have stopped and I no longer feel sick. I am controlling the panic's!!!! I feel better not taking any of the medication to be honest and I feel better in myself nowing that I am controlling myself and not relying on drugs....

I may have a blip further down the line but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. No on eknows what life will bring but I can't live my life popping pills!

Good luck to you all and I hope you all find your own way.. x

    Hi

I was recently on sertraline 50mg for postnatal depression.

I weaned myself off really slowly. I cut my tablets up by taking 37.5mg (basically 3/4 of a tablet) for one

week, then 25mg (half a tablet) for one week, then 12.5mg ( 1 quarter of a tablet) for a week. I then continued taking 12.5mg ( 1 quarter of a tablet) every other day, then every two days until I finally stopped.

I found coming off sertraline really really slowly I experienced no side effects at all.

Hope this helps : ) xo

I was on 50mg of Sertraline daily for more than 18 years. I tried several times to get off -- the first time I tried cold turkey after being on for 4 years, and I ended up miscarrying my third child. Each of the other times I tried weaning myself off, the side-effects (severe dizziness, a feeling of being underwater, anxiety) were so bad, I could not handle it and went back on. Several times I told my doctor I wanted to get off, but was afraid of the side effects. His solution was to just stay on the medicine. After 18 years of trying, failing, and just staying on, I went to another doctor. She prescribed Fluoxetine HCI. I took 20 mg for 2 weeks, then 10 mg for 2 weeks, then 5 mg for 2 weeks and then none. I've been off completely for almost two months. I still have the dizzy and underwater feeling (some days worse than others), but not nearly as intense as before -- it is at least manageable. I would just like to know if it will ever go away completely...

    *coming off sertraline"

I have been on 50mg sertraline since February, on starting it I had all the normal symptoms- nausea, loss of appetite and insomnia.

I went on holiday last week and the tablet was making me feel really sick again, so I stopped it. I haven't had one for approx 5 days and have now returned home. I woke up last night with extremely bad vomiting and have had the same thing all morning. I can't even keep water down. Is there a chance this is to do with the tablet or just a holiday tummy bug? I don't know whether to start taking one again today or what really?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. x

I'm just coming off of sertraline and after 5 days I started experiencing a dizzy spaced out feeling which has steadily got worse over the following 4 days. No feeling of nausea but I feel quite wobbly and unsteady on my feet. I'm hoping it's not going to go on for too long. I was on 100mg and my doctor said I could just stop taking them. I'm beginning to think maybe that wasn't very good advice.
