Coming off zoloft

Posted , 3 users are following.

I was on 25mg of Zoloft for 3 weeks, before deciding to come off, due to emotional blunting/disconnect I was feeling. I talked to my psychiatrist and doctors, and they both agreed that it was fine to stop cold turkey. So far I have been off of the Zoloft for about a week, but I'm still experiencing feelings of emotionless. I can cry and smile, but when I do, the feelings feel masked within my head. I was just wondering how long this sensation would last, and if anyone else has experienced the same thing? Thanks!

    Hi kat,

I've been off exulten for 1wk now after taking it 4 months ago 50mg then 7 months at 12.5mg.

I too feel that. I also feel a lot of different weird negative things like something pulling at the back or top of my head.

One thing I really hate is I can't focus on something for a little while. Like Im disconnected with it. Rather than dwell on what I can not do, I am grateful I'm off of Sertraline.

Think you're winning. We can live without these.

Personally I don't have a deadline of when these feelings will go away.

It's good you only been on it for 3 weeks, if I could turn back the time. I wouldn't have take all the meds my psychiatrist prescribed me to take.

Thanks so much for your kind words/encouragement! These medications and their side effects are frustrating to say the least. I guess all we can do at this point is take things day by day, and know that there's brighter days ahead! Glad to know that I'm not in this fight alone! smile

Thank you too. You're not alone. We're not alone. ☺

I used to express all the strange feelings I'm experiencing to my wife and especially to my mother. They comforted me but there are times they would just say to me in a cold manner : "it's just all in your head". At that point I realized, they cannot fully understand what I'm experiencing and feeling because they haven't experienced first hand what I'm going through. Well, at times I just think it's just all in my mind. Sometimes it works, I get through it, sometimes it doesn't.

Each of us are unique. Just keep fighting. Windows of relief gave me hope.

Brighter and better days are ahead of us. Just be patient. 😀

Kat I'm not sure that was good advice to go "cold turkey" I would wean off slowly. 3 weeks is long enough for this drug to have begun to re-wire your brain. Perhaps telling your Dr. you would prefer to wean off slowly and to give you a schedule might help the way you feel somewhat better? This Zoloft is nothing to play with. That is one serious drug! I was on it for less than one week for weaning purposes from Tramadol and I could not take the way it made me feel. I litterally felt like I was pouring acid on my brain. Couldn't sleep, felt naseated all the time, loose bowels, unable to focus on anything, emotional mess, discounted, felt like I was looking through my eyes from the back of my head...I had to get off of that quick. If I was to keep my sanity. It was bad. I'm medication free now and I feel free. If feels good to be me again. I'm done. I'd rather take the holistic approach, put in the work than to pop another pill..period. I hope the best for you. Angel from The Bay USA
