doxazosin

I have been taking Dixazosin for 3 years together with Ibersartan for high bp. I have had back aches all the time I have been taking them. I am ok for about 15 minutes of standing then my back really aches. On reading other people with the same problem I think I need to ask my doctor to change them as it is such a nuisance to have to sit down every so often when out shopping.

I have been taking Doxazosin for over a year now,I was taken off Amlodipine because of so many aches and pains in my legs but since being on Dox I have a permanent back ache when out walking anywhere,I have to keep stopping every so often and you can't always sit down when you are out ! I also suffer from a bladder problem early in the morning,this has been going on for a couple of years so not entirely due to Dox, wondering if it is due to Lisinopril as have been on it about 2 years.

I am stopping the Doxazosin today and see how my back feels over the next week. They don't really know what these chemicals do to people and hand them out like sweets !

I stopped taking Dox and felt so much better,my back ache vanished and I felt really good,went to the doctor and told him I had stopped taking them and he threw them in the bin and decided to try another tablet,I am now taking Atenolol 25mg along with Bendroflumethizide 2.5mg and Lisinopril 20mg. Up to now I have no back ache but my legs feel a bit jittery ! The GP thinks I am complicated !

Have already tried Amlodipine,I felt really ill on this and can't take Simvastatin either and have refused to try any other cholesterol reducing tablets,my cholesterol wasn't bad anyway! This stuff gave me aches and pains all over !

Beginning to wonder if we are all guinea pigs for the industry,anyone over 50 becomes a member,I am 70 now and want to keep some quality of life.

After being given a number of other medications to reduce my BP (all of which had very bad side effects) I have now been prescribed Cardozin-XL. I have been on it for about 3 weeks now (which I know is not long) but it does seem to be one I can tolerate best. Some of the listed side effects I did get at first but they seem to have subsided, however the one I do have (and I believe it is a very rare one) is anxiety. So much so that I have been prescribed diazapam to help. I am also finding that I get abdominal pain, ususally sometime after about 7 hours of taking it.

Believe me these are nothing in comparison to the side effects from some of the others, in particular Amlodipine (a real poison), and the diuretics which flushed all my sodium away.

I see that no one has contributed here since 2009, but would be really interested to hear from others who are taking this medication, and how they find it.

hi, i have been on doxizosin for about 3 years now 2 mg, i have found it gives me loads of head pains and lots of neck and leg pain and very dry mouth aswell i take paracetamol every 4 to 6 hours depending, to counteract the effects. the reson i keep taking it is because its the only drug that keeps my BP under control without kidney problems.  but i only take them at night theres no way i could take them in the day and still function properly.......len 7

Just to say thanks to contributors who have confirmed that some of the side-effects I have been experiencing are genuine and not connected to pre-existing conditions, e.g. I do have a minor postural issue - a stoop that is affecting me more as I pass 70 years.

My doxazosin experience is brief, but follows a series of visits to my GP. For the past few months I have been weaning myself off the anti-anxiety drug Sertraline by halving the dosage and lengthening the time between doses. I had the support of my GP in this, as:

1. The reasons for my anxiety problems were no longer relevant, and,

2. A side effect of Sertraline is erectile dysfunction (aaargh!), so I was trying to level the playing field (as it were).

GP was all for my course of action but then got into NHS target mode and decided I need my BP checked, as it had not been done for a time.

Ere the day is out I am on Felodipine for my high BP. Guess what one of the major side effects of Felodipine is? Yes, erectile dysfunction. So after about a couple of weeks on it I was experiencing no unpleasant adverse reactions, but it certainly wasn't helping the playing field issue.

So back to my very tolerant GP, who switched me to Doxazosin. I took the first 4mg dose at breakfast and spent the rest of the day trying to stand up. Trying to walk my dogs was like walking on the moon - no sensation of balance, sinus issues and a constant headache. So for the rest of the week I took the drug at night and things improved slightly.

But today was the third day of wanting to stay in bed as I felt exhausted and ached in my shoulders, lower back and feel a band-like headache all day.

Took the dogs out and I'm sure She Who Must Be Obeyed thought I was making things up. My hips and neck ached constantly and I was walking with a decided limp, and just made in round the village.

SWMBO has also commented on my irritability, which I had put down to a rebound effect of coming off Sertraline (and just being a grumpy old fart anyway), but it was reassuring, when I clicked on to this forum, to find that I most certainly am not making it all up.

The big decision now is whether to go back to Felodipine (I'm certainly not staying on Dox.) and take up trainspotting as a more suitable pastime, or whether to bother my GP again with other ways of 'levelling the playing field' re the other business. :-).

Hi Rona it is the doxizosin all what you saying somtimes the  benefiets out weigh the negatives the only thing i can say is only take them at bedtime allways empty your bladder befofe going to bed and your symptoms ease  your neck will still be a bit tender but not as bad....all the best.

Have now been given all clear by renal department and discharged. This just proves that all the problems have been to do with the bp pills.   However my bp is still high and i am waiting for a 24 hour monitoring test (anyone else had one of these).  I am guessing they will want to increase my dosage of dixazosin (certainly do not want to be given anything else)  and not really happy about this.  Whilst I do not seem to have such extreme side effects as some of you, they certainly do affect my quality of life.  I have osteoarthritis and recently have found my hips becoming more painful, both walking and when lying down.  I had assumed they were just getting worse, but having read some of the latest replies here wonder if that is actually the case.

 

yes massive back pain and some pains in rib cage feel that the doctor was trying to avoid changing the tablet ,feel aches and pains all over my dose went up to 6mg for high bp .In my veiw this drug isnt a good one I have been taken off it but for the next few weeks I wont have any replacement offered according to the doctor and feel a little like im being punished for talking about it or questioning its quality as a medication .My neck was the 1st thing to start aching
