Sharing GP Reassurance for ovary removal

Ive just got back from seeing GP as wanted to make sure he'd prescribe hrt with my family history before I finally agree to have ovaries out. He's been great and given me so much more info and guidance than the hospital. He also said at my age they really wouldn't take them out if not necessary and my consultant is specialist in female hormones and endo and has written many papers worldwide and if he says that in my case it would be better to go ahead I should go ahead. With my mum having gynae cancer its another reason to go for it. He explained hrt and said he'd be quite happy for me to take 15 years at a high dose and at 55 reduce down gradually into my 60s/70s as estrogen important. He also said if im not given anything at hospital to get my hubby to call in and hell precribe something so i dont have time for sudden drop to occur. Whether its his caring nature and the fact he doesn't rush me out. I was able to spill all my fears about the op and after and he then put medical advice to them all. Feeling so much more positive about what will be difficult time. just counting down the days now. Eek

Yeah just reduced dose as you get older. I've been freaking out about it though I know that 20cm sticky cysts aren't going to stop just because I will them to. Dr was so supportive and said there are so many combinations and types and although can't replace natural thing totally he comfortable that he'll get to something that will give me a normal life. I'm still convinced I'm going to wake up 10 years older but that's my brain!!

    Hi Froggy,

You sound like you're in your 40's like me.

I too am waiting to find out if my ovaries will be removed or not. I share your fear and I wish you good luck with your procedure.

Your doctor sounds wonderful with explaining every detail. That is very comforting.

    Again, good luck!!

Thank you. Turned 40 a few weeks ago... Lovely birthday present hey! I know I have a choice but I don't really as I know I need the op too. when do you find out if you need op too?

Not a good birthday present. I'm sorry to hear that.

I am waiting on some blood test results to come back and that will tell me if my ovaries will stay or go. If you have the choice absolutely keep them, especially if there is no need to have them removed.

I won't know for 3 or more weeks yet.

Hi. My problems are my ovaries its the womb that's fine but I'm having that out too as you still have periods without ovaries. If I'm having it done I want one advantage!! I really meant I have choice to refuse op rather than option of keeping ovaries. But deep down its best for me that they go. I'm not looking forward to hrt though. Keeping fingers crossed for your results then. Let me know x
