my sick note

Posted , 7 users are following.

Would you believe it, i phoned the docs last week as my sick note ran out yesterday, the receptionist asked how long i wanted the note for, i told her 6 weeks as that will have taken me to the 12 weeks as suggested by my surgeon. She told me to ring on Monday afternoon (yesterday) to see if it was done. I have not seen my doctor and have found out my original doctor has retired, so i have never seen this new one. I rang and they said yes its here ready. I ve just fetched it and she's gave me only 4 weeks and crossed out the stuff where it says fit for reduced hours etc, but has also ringed the bit on there where it says, "i will not need to assess your fitness for work" (after the time given). How does she know how i will be? she s never laid eyes on me, i phoned the surgery and they said to just ring for another note when that one is up but have got to ring after or on the day the note runs out as they cannot forward date a note only back date one.

So, my work will be expecting me to go back to work on the day it is up, how do i get around that one, what if i dont go to work saying im back at the docs and then she dont give me one? My works have been vile to me from word go, saying i could go back at 6 weeks once i can drive. I have to see my surgeon tomorrow for check up and see about HRT, do you think i could ask her for one and not mention this sick note from docs, if she gives me 6 weeks could i throw the one from docs away or is it on some computerised system. I havent got a clue, i have never been on sick before.

Sorry for the long essay but i'm so stressed out

Gail

Hi. Most notes are written so I doubt very much anyone at work would know or care by sounds of it who issued note. Tell consultant about your gp leaving and that the new one wouldn't even see you before issuing a note and then got it wrong. Just ask if they will issue one instead. If they say no at least you tried and can go back to doctors. Ask to see a different gp too. Good luck xx

This note i have got has been printed off, it looks to me that the 'new' doctor i have got is newly qualified and doing everything to the book. The note i had from  the hospital was hand written but not this one.

I think i will ask consultant tomorrow about my sick note running out on the 18th and ask her if she can give me another one, like you suggested. What have i got to lose?

    Hi Gail.

You don't need to go back to work even if sick note says that.

Just make an appt to see your doctor a day or two before your line runs out. Then you can explain if you feel,ok about returning or not. I can't believe how different all our experiences are. Also doctors are so different too.

Good luck seeing your surgeon tomorrow. Keep us updated

    Hi Lee

How did you go about your notes, i know you had to go back but did you go before your note ran out? the receptionist told me if my sick note runs out on the 15th of the month i cannot go the week before as cant put the date on from the 15th when it is only the 10th! She said if it runs out on the 15th i have to ring on that day for another one or after that as it can be backdated. But my workplace will be expecting me back on the 15th as the doctors left the note saying she doesnt need to see me again. How can i tell work i wont be back without a note and not know if i'm going to get one from her? I would nt mind but she hasn't even met me yet!

I know it sounds a bit confusing but god only knows why she could nt have just gave me a note for the 6 weeks and be done with it. As you know my hubby is adamant i'm having the 12 weeks off after the way works treated me.

Hi Gail. I got a 2 week line from surgeon. Went to see my doc the day it ran out and she gave me 4 weeks. Then went back last week 2 days after my note ran out ( couldn't get an earlier appt). I am seeing the same doc every time. She then backdated it 2 days and gave me another 4 weeks. She did put though that she wanted to see me again before going back. Just phone your work on 15th and say you are seeing your doctor again. It's a nuisance when your work are a pain.

Let me know how tomorrow goes

Hi. It doesn't matter if they overlap so if you still got a week to go on original and can get consultant to do another one ask for it to be for 7 weeks saying that takes you to a total of 12 weeks still. I'd explain thatwork is being really funny with you so you want minimal number of notes so they can't get even funnier with you. They may even go longer just in case xxx

I chased up a sick note to have when i was discharged from hospital. It was for a total of nine weeks and i am due back to work on June 8th.Having seen my consultant yesterday i felt he thought i should be doing everything as normal now including working full time.I saw my doctor and she will see me again on June 1st..My work have got a plan in place for reduced hrs for 3 weeks to take me up until my holiday. They are being very fair and i can take each day as it comes...

Hi, sounds like you have similar issues me. I would mention it to consultant as they can give you a certificate if dr won't. I was quite honest and told consultant I was not happy with gp info and wanted things clarified.  I would also go back and see someone else at surgery. I had to argue the case over phone with different gp at 6 weeks post op , had to tell them there was no way ready for work and felt like I had to persuade them to sign me off . If you discuss with consultant and he feels you need another full 6 weeks, you could ask that he write to gp and let them know recommendation. Do you have occupational health services at all at your work. My consultant said they should be assessing me and it was their responsibility also to judge if ready to go back and with what restrictions. Hope you get things sorted, just added stress . Good luck .

We got nothing at work, it's basically the manager and the chairman, they make the rules up for themselves! I dunno whether to just mention to the surgeon my note has ran out on Monday could she give me a new one? But then if she says I need to get one from docs then I cannot tell her I ve already got one and not happy as she s not set eyes on me yet! I know I ve gotta get HRT sorted and what's worrying me is if the dosage ain't right and I then have to see the doctor, I dread seeing her as she seems very evasive. How can she say I need not see her in 4 wks when my notes ran out? How does she know if I ll be ok? I m disgusted with her already and have not met her yet. There are 3 doctors at my surgery all of which are not brill, the good ones have now all retired and we got newly qualified ones that refer everything to a book! Wondering if it would be easy to change surgeries now as I have no faith where I am. So sorry to see the best leave x

    Hi Gail

Gosh, very surprised nobody at your surgery wants to even see you to check if you are okay!  I think it is a very good idea to ask your surgeon for a sick note tomorrow and forget your GP.  I'm very shocked at how uncaring some of the doctors are reading a lot of the posts on this forum, you look to your GP for support and it does not seem to be there at all!

Hope it goes well for you tomorrow and that you are feeling a lot better now.   Let us know how you get on.

Hi nanny to 5. i have been to my doctor today and have been given a neew sick note and my previous one doesnt run out unitl My 27th. The GP is saw today actually suggested it to save me from returning next week. It is truly incredible to see such differing experiences re our recovery rates. Today I have seen my fourth GP since having my surgery and each have stressed that although to me my recovery seems to be going on forever, this surgery has been major and this length is not particularly the exception. (I am five and a half months post -op).I agree with the ladies on here... I would speak to the surgeon and out him in the picture... as he specialises in this field he can advise you how to proceed. At the very least he could possibly recommend to your GP that you need further time for recovery or indeed write a sick not himself. You do not need this stress when you feel so vulnerable anyway. Perhaps a change of GP is required too....God luck Jo x

Phoned my head office earlier as i have received another form to fill out why i have been off work for longer than 7 days.It does state if you have handed in a fit note to ignore it but i asked why i have now had 2.It is all done by an automated system. They checked and they did have my fit note.I also double checked about my pay on reduced hrs and i will get full pay. This was a worry as i work 39 hrs ,especially when my branch manager only wants me to work a maximum of 12 hrs my first week back.If i feel that there is too much pressure put on me i can always get back up from my head office but because my manager is being so good i don't think i will need any further help but it is nice to know that the offer of help is there.

Just to update you all, been to see my Gyno today, she truly is an amazing doctor. I told her about my doctor and the sick note, she said the doctor doesnt need to assess me as i have had major surgery and the minimum time to have off work is 12 weeks so can just prescribe me a note without seeing me. I told her about my manager and how she was expecting me back to work after the 6 weeks and she was gobsmacked, she even said " you're telling me your manager is a WOMAN and has no sympathy for you?" She said i will be off work for a minimum of 12 weeks and i can have another 4 weeks after that if i dont feel well enough. She wants to see me again in 6 weeks time to see if the HRT she has prescribed me is agreeing with me. She has gave me Estraderm patches, i feel so relieved since i have seen her. She said my stomach has still not healed 100% as it is still hard in places because the insides are still knitting together. She could not believe what i told her about work and i could hear her talking to the nurse about it while i was getting dressed. She said she's writing to  my doctors to tell them she wants me to have the full 12 weeks off at least. I have since rang my manager and told her exactly what the Gyno has said about my time off and i really don't care if she likes it or not. As the Gyno said " you have to look after yourself and do not worry about work, your main importance is recovering". Bless her, she's just so lovely.

Thank you all so much for your support xxxxxx

      Hi Gail

Wonderful news.  Isn't it lovely to have a sensible doctor that knows what they are talking about.  So glad she has sorted you out, and hopefully your work will accept this and just let you recover in your own time.

      Take Care

      Love
