Wife has finally found a cure!!!

My wife had a liver transplant twenty five years ago this Dec. 31st. Around ten years after her transplant Granuloma Annulare showed up on legs. She was referred to several specialists to find treatment with zero success.

Her family has a history of Celiacs so i suggested she follow the same diet I do as I am glutten intolerent.  The granuloma annulare has completely gone from her extremities and she is over the moon that she can now wear tight leggings as well as nylons again and there are no more symptoms of itching and breaking out. It has been about six months since she went completely glutten free. I'm not suggesting this will work for everyone, but it would sure be worth a try.

Hi Stephanie - gluten free and all the other things I tried including therapy for stress, dietary changes going vegetarian as best I can, exercising ..eliminating bad behaviours like minimal alcohol etc....cant pin point ...only have scarring on my feet now ...rash at bay for the last year and a half !! Clean living and sorta stress free(changed office and work down to 4 days a week) seems to work so far ...BUT ....somewhere I read that it can have a two year cycle ...so I'll be watching my skin closely - oh and lastly ..cbd oil if I'm allowed to say that - it's not legal here in Ireland so had to get it from a friend who uses it medically 👩 best of luck with your journey with GA (my son diagnosed recently with granulomata rosacea...he uses a topical antibiotic cream fyi ...my other son has GA and my daughter unfortunately has hashimotos disease ...all autoimmune !! Definitely genetic I'd say)

GA does not usually produce itching and breaking out.  Your wife may actually have had dermatitis herpetiformis which is associated with celiac disease and caused by gluten.  Unlike GA, it does cause itching and breaking out, and is cured by avoiding gluten.   If other readers have "GA" with itching and breaking out, going gluten-free may well cure it.

I don't have itching with my GA ...just an initial awareness of the first sign of it - then it spreads from that central point out into frilly edged circles ...and each bout starts at the outer edge of the last bout - it is embarrassing - sometimes at meetings I find it easier to say they are burn scars (saves any further discussion) but I would love to see the last of it. I was told by a skin specialist there is nothing I can do. But just trying anything helps me through it...so far i've tried applying and drinking cider vinegar - applied a potion i sourced in U.S. made of mud - dietary changes - meditation ....maybe i just haven't stuck with anything long enough. My daughter has hashimotos which is also auto immune genetic predisposition (according to those in the know) - GA I was told is the same type of auro immune condition - my son had it all through his teens too but then it disappeared. I feel as if my GA has broken out when my body is under stress - as I have a stressful job and life at the moment and it flared up each time I had hip replacement - oh sometimes it's like going around in circles but I feel guilty too as it is only surface and not half as bad as some illnesses people go through - sorry for the rambling ...i have it on both arms hands and feet 😐 would love any other hints x thanks ~ Ros

Hi Ros. I have just joined this site. I have had GA for the past 11 years and have had a biopsy to confirm it. I have been covered with marks over my legs and arms for most of this time. I have had all the creams and tablets they can give, but nothing made a difference. I then read a story about a lady who took hay fever and allergy tablets from Aldi, they are Lotradine. I started to take one daily and my legs and arms slowly cleared up. I don't know if it coincidental or not but it has made such a difference to me. I am a much happier person without them. So two years on, so far so good. Regards Chris

I have read many lists here in this forum. A few suggested food allergies. I was recently bitten by a tick causing me to become allergic to red meat. I was also told to go on a low histamine diet. The post about the person who was tested by the intolerance testing group made sense. Most of the foods listed are high in histamines! Look up low histamine diets or a list of foods high in histamines. Avoid them and you may get some relief, I did. Also I went gluten free as well. The dermatologist gave me cream I apply twice daily. I have it from my breasts to my knees! It is fading to a much lighter color and does not feel irritated and itchy any more. I noticed if I slip and have something high in histamines I will start itching. Low histamine and gluten free have really helped me. I hope this helps you too!

Sabrina just wanted to share because I think you may be right! I noticed when I take a antihistamine every night ( I take the Rexall pink pill similar to Benadryl ) my rash doesn't look as irritated and lightens in color! I'm covered all over arms , legs , torso , trunk , feet , back and ankles btw. luckily I Dont have dark red outlining, it's more the color of my skin tone but just raised skin so it makes it more bearable but still very noticeable. 😩 I've had this since I was 12 and I'm now 30. The one thing I can't seem to understand is why did my GA go away completely during both pregnancies?! I couldn't help to think it was a hormonal issue. I think I may have read before that people's allergies go away during pregnancy. Also I too did the hair intolerance test and allergy testing. I will do some research on this low antihistamine diet.... Thank you!

Just wanted to add to my comment from last night. I drank a half glass of red wine. Very high in histamines! Today I noticed a flare up of my rash. I can tell if I eat or drink histamines. It shows in the rash!

I discovered my GA two or more years ago after breaking out just where I had an xray. Seemed odd. Now I am noticing that I am breaking out where I received many wasp and hornet stings. I got walloped last summer and stung a lot. Now this week I am starting many new spots and even new rings on established rings. They are on the top of both hands now, up my arms and around one ankle.  I am petrified about them getting on my face. Mine are itching as they grow and I watched one form from a wart like bump into a ring in less than a week.  I am wondering about leaky bowel, diet and bites.  I think it is an inner imbalance. But the calmer I get the more it breaks out. So I will start to experiment and see what effects it and what diminishes it.  Good luck to all.

Kim, I got bitten by a tick causing me to develop the alpha gale allergy. Allergic to red meat. About the same time the GA began showing up and spreading. After many visits to allergist and my old dermatologist I found this forum. Someone said gluten was the culprit so I eliminated it from my diet and got a new dermatologist. She gave me a large tub of cream for flare ups to use twice a day. The rash almost completely cleared without gluten and I used the cream until it was just about gone. The holidays came and I slipped a bit eating gluten and the rash began to appear again. I quit gluten and used the cream and it's almost gone again. Anyway I feel the bites or stings somehow make us allergic to certain foods. I heard on this forum you can get a DNA test with a hair sample for $105. I'm considering it as it targets specific foods you are intolerant to. Maybe it's not all gluten or it could be some other food we are eating. Anyway they tell you exactly which foods cause areaction. I think one person was intolerant to cauliflower and some other specific foods. Hope this helps. You can look up DNA food intolerance test online. Hope this helps. This forum has helped me more than anything else!
