Allergic cold?

Hi All,

I am getting frequent cold every week - don't know if it could be called cold - symptoms starts with irritation in nostrils, heavy sneezing &running nose. No cough, no fever, and no other allergic issues. Have been having this for last 2+ years. Whenever I get this, I take a cetrizine or loratadine along with telfast 120mg and it goes away after a series of sneezing in a couple of hours. Met my GP many times, she would give two nasal sprays , one being a steroid based medicine called Omnaris. When I take this combination, the sickness doesn't appear for 2-3 weeks.

I am not apparently allegic to any specific food or cosmetics. Can anyone suggest the best way to get rid of this please? It is not a major situation for me but is quite irritating. I would start sneezing during a meeting or driving or any time. Looking forward to getting out of this.... Any suggestion will be grately appreciated.. Thank you.

    This sounds just like my partner's situation at present - one cold after another, episodes of sudden repeated sneezing and running nose.  I have long suspected that he has a pollen allergy. I used to get hayfever, and have used both cetrizine and loratadine - they are antihistamines, so as your symptoms seem to respond to them, it sounds as though you may well have an allergy.

    If it's any consolation, my hayfever was at its worst in my late 20 - 30s.  It gradually grew less and less troublesome, and now (at 67) I don't suffer at all.  My Dad was the same - he said that once you slip past 40 it tails off.  

    I don't know Omnaris - but in the past I used various proprietary nasal sprays and eye drops.  Anything that either your GP or local pharmacist recommend helps.  Also keep a record of what dates you suffer badly, and a pattern may emerge.  Various trees and grasses produce pollen at different times.  Online BBC weather forcasting usually indicates when pollen levels are high.  Perhaps you'll find these dates coincides with particularly bad days.  When I knew it was going to be high, I used to take an antihistamine before the symptoms started.

      Thanks a lot for sharing you experience. I am 45 yr old male, just for info. Never had any of these issues till I was 43.

      I will keep watching the pattern and then try and see an allergy specialist. Thanks once again.
