Chiari arm pain

I have a Chiari type 1 and have over the last few days had a really painful right arm, as if there is trapped nerve at the top of my arm, lower than my shoulder. I also carry around a 1 year old most of the day so don't know if this is due to carrying him around or Chiari. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Leah, I had that before my decompression, anyway even worst than that, I can't even lift my right arm, my right leg also pain so much - I don't think is due for keep lifting your babe, but however you should not really be carrying your child with the Chiari...make sure you get that sorted see your health care professional

Hi, why should I not be lifting my children? I've never been told this. I'm not really keen on decompression and want to avoid if I can. Up until now the only symptoms I have are sudden pressure headaches when coughing bending over shouting ??Etc. I do sometimes loose my train of thought but other than that nothing really. As I can manage the head aches as I know what to do to avoid them. If my arm is due to Chiari what else can they do though? Other than decompression I mean.

Well I started just like migraine (headache) but no one told me not to lift or anything, my job needed that (it was 2 years ago), but I kept carrying stuff, lifting my plinth for my exhibition, so my shoulder, getting worse, but my headache getting unbelievable, jsut like you I did not like the idea of decompression, well, you should not do it if that can be manage by medication, even though the prolonge usage of medication does not givve a good idea neither, but then all of sudden its giving terrible when I cough, laough, sneeze, go to the toilet, and the longer I leave it, as I was scared of the side effect of the surgery as well, every single movement became a chore and I passed out each time I cough and sneeze..the pain was so excruciated,I went back to my GP agrred to neurologist's advice, but I have got 2nd opinion to have decompression, then I just had it done 2 onths and one day ago, I am so glad that I have done it..as I just could not put up with the pain. why you should not carry/lift heavy thing (children/hoovering/shooping) because its put pressure on your nerve/muscle..which make our condition worse, even now, I do not carry anything heavier than 1 kgs anymore, as i DO NOT WANT TO have symptom again

Sorry I can see it now. I have 3 young children so not lifting them etc is just not possible. I am not on any medication and my head pains only last a few seconds each time, not like a prolonged headache

A product called biofreeze has helped me before and actually last night I used a heating pad and wrapped it around my upper arm and actually was able to sleep for a few hours. I then woke up and moved it to the back of my head and top of my other arm and that worked. I was surprised. I'm actually laying with it now and it's helping the back of my head. I thought heat would aggravate it , so I had avoided heat, but it works for me.
