esophageal cancer

was hoping people could assist i have been spitting up blood for the last six months and have had terrible heart burn i have had a ct scan which came back normal and i am due to have an endoscopy in a fortnight . I am worried becuase i think it could be esophageal cancer , another thing is when i drink alcohol my face and neck goes patchy red , which i have read could be linked . I am a 47 year old male with no weight loss , no problem swallowing food , although it feels sometimes its getting stuck in my chest , there doing the endoscopy to see if the esophagus is bleeding .     The endoscopy will be the determining factor. Your specialist will take a biopsy from the scope and you should get results back within 4 -5 weeks

      I also had the procedure done because I had problems swallowing some of my food. 

      Results from my scope was no cancer but severe inflammation of my esophagus and diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus, caused by silent acid reflux. I now take 40 mg of Pantoloc twice a day for 6 months then reducing to 20 mg twice a day. Then another scope about a year and half den the road

    I have barretts and yr told to stop drinking tea coffee and alcohol and fizzy drinks maybe try this before yr endoscopy

    It sounds like you possibly have Barrett's esophagus. Normally Barrett's precedes esophageal cancer and the rate of esophageal cancer is very low among patients actually diagnosed with Barretts. I recently read a study that suggests the incubation period between Barrett's and esophageal cancer is thirty years; and we know that only 5-10 % of patients develop cancer after being diagnosed with Barrett's.

    I would ask your physician to test you for Sjögren's syndrome especially if you suffer from dry eyes, dry mouth, and a lower than normal white count (in compete metabolic profile) *that might explain the patches of redness with alcohol.

      cheers Anchor appreciate your reply its just the worry really and i guess i am probably a bit young to have it anymore advice you could give i have been taking most of the ppis Lanzaraporazle , Omerzrapole they seen to work for a couple of weeks then symptoms go back to normal
