Hi, I was wondering if anyone in this group know of a good TN specialist or a really good neurologist in Dallas fort worth or Houston Texas that they have had good luck with. Thanks,

For Neurologist, i would go to Dr. Charisse Bartha in Plano
Tx. I didn't see her as a patient but i had two office visits taking my aunt there and she seemed to listen and care attentively. A quality i found missing in most of the Neurologists i saw for my TN.
I got my surger done in Dallas by Dr. James Moody and Dr. Michael Oh, while they did solve my TN pain with MVD for now, i can't say that i would recommend them as they caused me a lot of undersirable side effects and their follow up care was VERY poor. They treated me as if these other problems were not a big deal and the TN pain gone means it's a 100% sucess. I guess you can make a call if that's someone you want operating on you. They were new to this procedure ( ie, not too much experience in MVD's ) . I chose to go to them because that's not what was presented to me earlier in the office visits. The attention prior to surgery was fantastic but when unxpected and severe post surgery effects started to show ( including a micor brain stroke ), they ignored me. His nurse was the worst Zaineb Shams.
I went for a consultation to a recommended MVD surgeon in Houston( Dr. Dong Kim). He gave me 4 minutes of his time even though i drove from out of town to see him. Basically interupted me as soon as i started talking about my condition and said he knows all about TN and also told me that students typically conduct more than half the procedure on the operating table and he only comes in to work on the critical stuff. Maybe that's how surgeries work but knowing that, i was never going to chose him. Once again his staff was very rude and arrogant. After me driving 3 hours for my appointment, Dr. Audra Cossart Banarjee ( who is part of his staff that initially sees you before he does ) told me that he may or may not see me because he suddenly go busy and i might have to come back next week.
Sorry this is not a recommendation as you had asked but i thought i would at least let you know of the people i would never go near again!

Hi may,
I was diagnosed with TN, February of this year. Thankfully I was placed in front of all the right people from GP to Neurologist to Neurosurgeon.
Dr. Dong Kim in Houston, TX is phenomenal! He just performed my MVD surgery 5/19. I return tomorrow to have my stitches removed!
From the moment I left the hospital I continued with my regular routine! The pain was completely gone! I almost feel bad not being able to return to work before 4 weeks.
He's with Memorial Herman so be sure to do your own research. Dont take my word for it. God bless you on this journey!

Oh I see someone already mentioned him. Im sorry about your experience. I'm not sure how long ago this was for the previous poster, but I can say that ALMOST everything she says is true, not only that, but he tells you so up front. Your "face time" and quality care time is spent in front of a student, they then summarize what u told them to the Dr in front of you when he enters toward the end. The staff was delightful to me though. Very understanding of what I was going through but what was being asked of me too - my first appt with him was exactly 1-1/2 weeks prior to my surgery.
In Dr. Kim's defense he is completely transparent about his policies and procedures and thoroughly educates you about what's to be expected during appointments BEFORE you ever see him. I spent at least 3 hours on this "education" as my patient requirement. If incomplete, then your appointment wasn't guaranteed.
Again I urge you to do the research yourself with ALL doctors you are seriously considering.

Not disputing your experience with Dr.Kim, but mine was totally the opposite. I went in with a confirmed appontment from out of town and he appeared totally disinterested in conducting surgery for TN. I had a lot of knowledge on my condition prior to visiting him ( through research and speaking with other doctors), so i had some specific questions for him. In my experience , as soon as i wanted to know just a little more specifics on other cases like mine and what i could expect based on my MRI, he appeared totally disinterested. Within 4 minutes of seeing me , he just brushed off all the questions saying " I've done hundreds of these so you've got nothing to worry about" and then he proceeded to tel me that students do part of the surgery and he only oversees the complicated parts. For some educated and informed patients, that kind of response is just not going to be acceptable. He may be very skilled in the area but a lack of interest that is self expressed is a red flag for being hired. He also mentioned to me that his main area of interest in surgery was brain tumors because it is more complicated and challenging! My first visit ( the pre appointment visit was with his staff Dr. Audra Cossart Banerjee). Dr. Audra was just as dismissive , unattentive and unprofessional. She is the one who told me that even though i had an appointment, Dr. Kim Sunddenly got busy and won't be able to see me till the following week. She also asked me about my symptoms with TN, but when i was talking to her, she seemed to not be listening and acted as if she's heard it all before so i was just another generic case. While Dr. Kim may be competant with what he does. I would never recommend him to anyone because when one themselves declares no interest in the subejct matter of their work, you can't guarantee results. Ajarain, im glad it worked out for you though. At the end of it it all, the only thing that matters is that the TN pain is gone for everyone.
