Severe chest pains experienced

I was out shopping friday with husband it was quite warm but windy. In a shop got severe chest pain, cold and clammy, felt faint and had very dry mouth. Assistant put fan on gave me glass of water. Did not help. Went into another store to get bottle of water, same symptoms again but felt sick. Upshot, they called 999, paramedic came thought either a heart attack or blood clots in lung (had previously). Taken to hospital, after 24 hours all tests clear, no cardiac reason for all this ! GNT spray and lemon tasting aspirin made me vomit! A friend she suffered the same earlier this summer. I had been away (by coach and river boat) where I had to suffer a lot of cigarette smoke (on boat) and returned hoarse, coughing and chest feeling rough. However chest xray clear! Anyone had similar experience? Was not bad case of indigestion either.

Hi Cathy. I had exactly the same symptoms a couple of years ago after taking co-codomol for toothache. No explanation except allergic reaction. Then last August diagnosed with multiple bilateral pe,s. May just be a coincidence. When did you have P E.?

Had multiple blood clots 4 years ago with no chest pains 'just" a cough for a year (4 different and incorrect diagnoses - virus x 2, asthma and whooping cough), and then awful breathlessness and finally grey skin and blue lips, went to hospital as emergency from gp. . Came from dvt in leg no psin there until 2 days after diagnosis. Real mystery then too as I was active and working 2 days in a charity shop so on my feet walking most of the day. Thought it was indigestion but pain went into jaw while with paramedic, never had such awful.pain. Was told the first lot of water made me feel sick! I have been very active recently walking (over 77 miles in a month) but I know that clots can occur in anyone even athletes. Steroids have given me symptoms of dvt before when prescribed for chronic bronchitis, confirmed after pes. Seeing chest clinic tomorrow as a follow up, on new inhaler for 3 months now. Thought a connection there too. Will find out more then hopefully.

Been to see Chest Physician, given me Azithromycin, which gives me the runs, but I am going to persevere, and take Immodium if I have problems! He did say that a lot of people have unexpained chest pains, not very reassuring, but did not say what I should do if I get a repeat.  I also have very sensitive airways, again, nothing he can do to help me.  I asked about breathing classes, like my friend goes to, but as I don't have COPD, asthma  or bronchietasis, then they will not help.  I feel very vulnerable now to another attack, hopefully I will not be on my own if and when it happens.

Hate it when I come out of doctors and still feel anxiety. Almost feels like they have missed something. Try to think positively and not dwell on the symptoms. Try to keep your mind busy. At least it is summer and we are not stuck indoors all the time. let me know how it goes. I am always looking on here so any time just message. Always helps to share. Especially if on your own anytime.😍💐

Did they do a cat scan of your chest? Sure didn't sound right. Did they check for clots or stroke?

I had chest xray as I have been coughing, and picked up something while on holiday (not air travel), in Germany people smoke inside restaurants (not allowed but not enforced), which certainly did not help my 4 year old cough, nor did the smoke on the top deck of a river cruise help, which made this out of bounds, but smoke travels downstairs, inside!  I ended up hoarse, and my friend's asthma suffered also.    I had so many blood tests that my arms and hands are bruised where they could not find veins as well as where they did!.  No further follow up on discharge letter!  Seems like this is a common occurrence, my sister in law had a similar episode, ended up in A&E, and eventually diagnosed wth angina, and a friend in the village had it a month or so back, no known cause again.  Both are older than me, I am 67.  Parents and grandparents all died with heart diseases, just found death certificates yesterday as I had been asked what type of heart diseases my parents had, they both smoked and grandfather was an innkeeper, and both my father and grandmother died at 62, hence the worry on my part, and my husband's.

It can be quite frightening when it happens.  I sometimes get what I call an "air block" in my chest, then I drink 2 large glasses of water, and hopefully the speed of the water helps me burp, and its gone, or I need Gaviscon, then it goes.  This time, nothing worked, not even GTN spray or chewable aspirin, which both made me sick, no food inside just water at that point.  That was what scared me.  My discharge Doctor was one I had worked for pre-retirement, only a short while, but he remembered me, and I him, he is so popular with all the nurses, and reassured me, brought a smile to my face after so long of being worried!  Still did not give me a reason though, just dread when I get my next "air block"!
