Further treatment after UFE?

Posted , 4 users are following.

Has anyone who has had UFE needed further treatment and what was it? I had UFE 18 months ago and although it was technically a success I'm still having heavy periods though not as bad as before. I've spoken to the radiologist who thinks it's due to the submuscal fibroid. He also thinks I could still get more shrinkage. I'm having another scan next month. Meanwhile my GP has suggested the coil or contraceptive injection to help with the heavy bleeding. Bit annoyed that I am still dealing with this. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Sorry, to hear your fibroids have grown. Did the doctor give any reason why that might have happened? It sounds as if the UFE didn't cut off the blood supply like it's supposed to do, maybe that's why they are suggesting a second UFE? I asked about a 2nd UFE but the blood supply was cut off to all except 1 fibroid so doctor said there was no point. Mine did shrink, the largest from 9cm to 5cm but not enough to solve my problems! Hope you can get surgery if that's what you want.

My advise is to go for surgery Brigitte, especially if you want kids as the UFE is known to affect fertility . After putting up with my nightmare for 18 months officially diagnosed, I can not describe how happy I am now that I have had surgery. The keyhole procedure which I have had, has been the best option for me, I recovered so fast that 3 weeks after had i done today went back to work earlier than i was due to return, 29th august.

I admire honestly all of you for putting up with the nasty fibroids, I just got fed up and decided, that it time to get my life back.
