Fatty liver Gilberts Syndrome

Hi I was diagnosed at 16, I am now 24 and haven't experienced anything since being diagnosed until now.

I struggled with alcohol from 20 until 9 months ago when I 100% quit.

I was prescribed an antibiotic for a bladder infection, then fell terribly ill with gilberts the next day. I was throwing up violently for 3 days and my liver felt like it was the size of a soccer ball. Plus the most tained yellow eyes and a very yellow glow everryyywhere.

The scary part was I could not see straight, even sitting up I would get so dizzy I would start puking again.

I stopped macrobid and replaced with amoxicilin when the symptoms subsides and I am feeling better 2.5 weeks later.

Today the doctor told me they found evidence of fatty liver. I am not near overweight, I am active and healthy. I am a vegan since I quit drinking 9 months ago. So for me it doesn't make sense.

I am awaiting the liver specialist and as we know our minds wander while we wait...

Anybody have any thoughts on if fatty liver could be related to gilberts?

    Hi fatty liver is relatively common I personally don’t have it myself even though I have GS. Usually fatty liver is nothing to worry about. A lot of people with GS has it. My Mum has it as well.

      Has your mother had any specific fatty liver related symptoms?... Does she have GS aswell? I wonder if the symptoms of both are similar therefor hard to say if it was fatty liver related or GS.

      Hi, I don’t know whether she has symptoms but a lot of people on the Facebook group have it. The Facebook group is called Life With Gilbert’s Syndrome u could join and ask for advice as there r many helpful people on there.

    That’s a tough one. Does anyone in the family have other conditions related to liver health other than Gilbert’s? I really don’t think fatty liver is a symptom of GS. besides, GS isn’t a disease, it’s a malfunction of a gene in the liver... sorry to hear!
