My heath anxiety is killing me, someone help me please

Posted , 7 users are following.

My circulation seems to be really really bad.

My family swears it's from me laying around and having pinched nerves.

I'm 100% sure I have an issue with my veins.

I'm more veiny than I was before and I have some other issues that are hard to explain unless you see them.

I've been to the doctor and hospital a billion times and had: head scan, eyes checked, chest scan, stomach scan, 2 urine tests, 4 blood test, a back scan, ekg, etc.

I don't know why is something isn't showing up. I'm terrified because obviously if the veins are affected the heart is too. I'm afraid to die from a horrible heart attack or a stroke because of this.

I'm 17, healthy other than an infection, and not overweight. I don't know why this is happening and it's driving me insane.

I don't know what to do. I just don't want to die.

    Hey Luna,

I’ve had health anxiety specifically for the last month or so and I’ve thought I’ve had absolutely everything under the sun. Some I’ve gotten checked out, some has gone away on its own and some I’m still worrying about.

The best advice I can give you is to listen to your doctor. They’ve had tons and tons of years of schooling to learn things that we can’t even begin to understand. With the amount of tests that you’ve had done I would think it’s highly unlikely that they haven’t picked up on at least something, especially with the ekg and chest xray.

I’m having circulation problems right now at the moment too, that I believe is coming from my birth control - a super common side effect. Hormones in general can also affect circulation and water retention.

In my experience small problems are usually magnified when we start to worry about them. I used to think i was going to have a heart attack every time I went to bed my heart would pound and I would start choking. I haven’t had this happen in almost a year though. I’ve also felt like my neck was tightening up a lot, like I wasn’t getting blood to my head at all. Everything goes away eventually. In my case it’s usually replaced by some other concern haha but then at least you know it was nothing serious.

I would recommend looking at things from an anxiety standpoint and treating things from there. Medication or cbt could really help! And in the mean time do things that take your mind off your worries. Remember whatever you’re feeling, I promise someone else has felt it too and it’s been anxiety.

    Hope you feel better soon!

    Cass

Hey. I've mixed anxiety and depressive disorder and i can also fully sympathise. I've suffered anxiety issues for years and about 3 years back my focus switched to health anxiety (reoccurring as also had a spell when i was 12 for a while). And i can assure i worried exactly the same, had bloods, scans, saw a heart specialist, skin specialist, had several walk ins, dr apt and a fun trip to A&E. Had nearly every symptom going! The last 'phase' of health specific phobia lasted 2 years and it's only been through therapy (again), medication and not googling that i've took some control back over it and i'm not 100% free of the physical symptoms. That and the fact that despite believing 3 years back i was having a heart attack, then when they said that was fine, convinced i had cancer as the veins on my chest seemed concernly more blue than normal, and a bunch of other concerns...i am still here and believe me, if it were something more i'd have been severly ill by now...and by this i mean weight loss, can't get out of bed, in pain and agony type ill, not just anxiety symptoms ill, though they're so horrid that at times it feels like you're in a lose lose situation.

Truth is i'm pale, those veins have always been more visible than most, thay mole/freckle hasn't changed, that pain in my chest i've had before etc. and my anxiety is what caused them to 'appear' worse than it was. Then googling/worrying just feeds that anxiety. It's a viscious cycle.

I've spent half my life worrying about things that haven't yet happened for the most part, so if you've not considered therapy i would highly recommend it. It does ultimately come down to you though to retrain your thought process and perception.

Something isn't showing up bc there is nothing wrong with you! That's what health anxiety is, the irrational fear that something is wrong and you're not in good health when you actually are. If you did all those different tests and seen Drs, etc. then you have your answer, if something was wrong with you it would have shown on one of the tests. I have been experiencing health anxiety for the past 7 months or so, after a family member of mine passed away from cancer. I understand how scary it is and how hard it is to stop worrying and obsessing. I highly suggest seeing a therapist, I've started seeing one and it is helping a lot!
