Peeling skin on fingers

Posted , 3 users are following.

The skin on my thumbs and pointer fingers won’t stop peeling. I use hand cream and hand salve at night to no avail. My pointers have dulled sensation from the continued peeling and healing. I do admit that I pick at the skin and pull it off because I can’t stand the sensation of jagged pieces of hard skin on my fingers.

Why is this happening to only these 4 fingers? Why won’t they heal?imageimageimage

It could be dermatitis, you may be allergic to something, you need to see a dermatologist.

Thanks for the reply Moon! I've been to a dermatologist and tried the cream he prescribed but didn't see results.

Why is it affecting only these 4 fingers?

are you coming in to contact with a new cleaning product, face cream, washing up liquid, shampoo or do you work with your hands with any glues, varnishes or dyes? Is there any new product you have been in contact with since this has begun? Your thumbs and index fingers are the digits you use most so try and think of something you have used mainly with your hands that you could think may cause this reaction.

Were you given a steroid medication to use? That is usually the first line of treatment.

Moon has also raised the point of allergies. When did this first start? Can you remember introducing anything into your daily routine at work or home at the time. Do you prepare food for cooking...handle things like chillies or onions? Do you work with plants? It would be interesting to know the sort of work you do.

Do you suffer with anxiety? Did you start the picking during a stressful time and it has become a compulsive habit. Compulsive hand washing?
