I'm having my THR end of this month. I'm in favour of spinal anesthetic+ sedative. Comments would be appreciated....

Susan I had the same as you,i can obviously only speak from my own experience but,I was given pain killers right from the start and yes when I first got out of bed was very stiff, but the pain was manageable and over the next few days came off the pain killers, did my excercises and now am really getting there, the joy of the simple things is amazing standing talking to friends without having to lean on something for support and realise you can walk fairly good distances with no pain is soo good, believe me the bit of discomfort to start with is so well worth the result just wait and see Good luckx

I too had a spinal and felt nothing at all during the op and was glad I'd had that option.. I agree with the others - it obviously depends on the individual, but my pain even immeditaely after the op was nothing like it was before, and also they did give me loads of pain killers, and checked on my pain levels all the time, and were very concerned that I shouldn't be in unneccesary pain. Yes, it was hard getting in and out of bed at first, but this got easier very quickly. I'd recommend taking your grabber into the hospital with you which I didn't think about in advance and it would have made life a lot easier when I was in hospital.  Try not to worry and keep positive! Good luck.
