comparing costs or treatment - and abroad?

Posted , 8 users are following.

I've decided to get my veins done but my GP can't organise it for me on the NHS so I,m trying to research having it done privately.

Not that easy as no website will list a price. I've clicked for a quote form a couple but they all just tell me the cost of an initial consultation.

I'm also very confused about the different treatments available.

Hoping people will be willing to share where they went, what the treatment was and how much it cost.

Also - has anyone had it done abroad? Was it good? cheaper? worth doing?

I'll be ever so grateful for any info to get me started

Thanks

Carol

I had mine done on insurance -the costs are varied.

all I can say is there are surgeons who want do surgery and there are others that use different methods.

I had surgery -- because my specialist who is one of the top in country -John Scurr believes it has the best results-the other highly recommended is Richard Whitely who uses procedures other than surgery as he believes they have the best results !but he had along waiting list. It is confusing- google as much info as you can - read articles-become informed- daily mail wrote a lot of articles.. just put varicose veins treatments into google.

It does depend what type of varicoses you have what s the best treatment. so pick someone that does them all .there are specialist vascular clinincs in London and elsewhere.

you will get ideas of prices by looking at websites. certainly wouldn't go abroad as you cant fly for a while afterwards.and you need follow up appointments.

It is going to cost you several grand.they are all running a business at the end of the day

so shop around but be guided by peoples recommendation's.

an initial consultation wil set you back about £200 but you need the scans as well before they can proceed. Most will offer a package price for treatment. good luck

I'm not quite sure how it works but I'd go back to your doctors and ask to maybe see another GP.. I've been sent to see a specialist twice now just by asking.. The first time (which was between 12-18 month ago) I turned down the surgery but I decided to go through with it this time.. I'm not saying they will send you but it's worth a try I say..

    Hope it helps..

I had my veins done in January. I'd had two "cut and tie" strips in the past, but after a period - 5 plus years - they come back.

It depends on whereabouts you are, but I went with Mr Eddie Challoner, of Radiance Health, who is one of the pioneers in foam sclerotherapy and laser treatment. He operates at Lewisham Hospital in London where I believe it is possible to get it done on the NHS, although not many people manage to get this treatment as the NHS believes it is too new to be tried and tested!

He operates also at the Chelsfield Hospital (near Sevenoaks in Kent) which is where I went for my initial consulation and also my op. I went in for my op under a general anaesthetic as I had quite a lot of work done - left leg laser treatment, and right leg (previously done) had a combination of all three - stripping, laser and sclerotherapy. The charge for all of this was £4,225. The initial consultation which included him using his ultrasound to look at all the legs was £230. I felt this was all very reasonable and I can already see much improvement (my right leg looked awful before the op).

He has a very good website so you can get a lot of information from that. As somebody said further up on this thread, don't go abroad, as you can't fly for a while, and you won't feel like travelling in a car in a normal sitting position (ie. without elevated legs) for any length of time afterwards.

    Good luck!

Not sure if you're still researching - recently had EVLA by The Veincentre - £1995 for both legs, £150 for initial consultation with ultrasound and will be £200 for follow up including foam scleropathy, so £2345 total. The have a website with a clear price list. Most reasonable quote found by far, and excellent patient experience so far - 10 days post op. Good luck!

Hi charlie im booked in for my consultaion on the 15th july. can you tell me a bit about how your legs looked before and after. im so worried as i had a small varicose vein in my knee. i had no problems until it burst one night. there was a pool of blood under the skin surface and the docs refused to help in any way. it disappeared but my knee vein came back and is knotted not and getting worse. iv also noticed veins branching from it that arent bobbly but are very blue and at the surface. starting to look like a bit of a road map. im wondering if those veins get better with treatment of the main problem??? any info would be appreciated x
