Complex Ovarian Mass

Hi all just a quick update on my situation,

I was due to see the doctor on Friday and due to my insurance had to cancel because they had not processed my bill from the ER when I was seen on January 5th. (that in itself is enough to drive someone crazy) but when I went in on the 5th I had lower back pain and some spotting and was diagnosed with a 5cm x 4cm complex mixed mass with 1.6cm x 1.1cm mural nodule. (my full ultrasound report is on my other discussion from last week) my ca125 was 21. My question is I understand that most cysts are benign but since mine says mass does that mean it is not a cyst? Also for the last 3 to 4 days I have been in a constant pain (any where from level 3 to 5) I feel it anytime I move in my lower back and now cramping in front like a period. Advil and Tylenol are not helping even to ease the pain. I also am still spotting at some point everyday. The hospital referred me to a gynecologist but no one will take the insurance I have. So I went back to the hospital and asked if they would do the biopsy that is requested by them and they refused saying they do not have the equipment in the ER. Any thoughts as what to do now. I'm scared worried frustrated and very emotional. I want to thank in advanced all of the wonderful support that I am receiving from this forum. I wish that I was able to reply to more discussions but I am still in complete darkness as to what even is going on with me because I can't get an appointment to figure out what even is going on so I don't want to give anyone false info.

Hi CJ, oh you poor lady, you sound so worried.

Yes you can have an ovarian cyst that is solid, and it could be referred to as a cyst.

Google dermoid cyst, that could be called a mass.

There are various different ovarian cysts that are benign.

Isn't there a way your GP can refer you for an MRI or to see someone under your health system? I'm guessing you are in the states.

Could you go back to the ER  because of the pain and be referred to a surgeon to remove it without going through your insurance?

I must admit I don't know much about your system, but there must be a way to see someone if you are in so much pai.

I am having a lot of internal conflict of going back to the ER due to the pain only because I don't want to sit there for 9 hours and be told that there is nothing that they can do. My husband and I just keep going thru different scenarios of what to do. Unfortunately the system can and will be very complicated here determined via what type of insurance you hold, I do not have a GP due to the deductible that is required monthly with this type of insurance I basically become self pay if I go to a general doctor, really the only thing that my insurance is good for is the ER. Thank you so much for the reply as I have been going insane trying to figure out what is cyst and what is a mass. Haha the only thing I can do is continue taking day by day until everything works out.

It's difficult isn't it. I have insurance but can also use our NHS, but like you the last time I went to A&E we were there seven hours, they then kept me in overnight and I had a scan the next morning.

I had an ovary plus cyst and tube removed last April, so read up a lot then. If you do have to have it removed, it isn't too bad afterwards.

Mine was a Simple cyst-- fluid filled, but I was having prolapse surgery so asked if he would remove the cyst while I was under, just to get it out of the way. My insurance paid for it, otherwise I would have been waiting months.

Our NHS is in a bad state at the moment.

Too many patients, not enough staff.

Hi Laura I finally got into a gynecologist on Friday ! Thank God she was wonderful . She sat down with my husband and I and went over every inch of my ultrasound report, she is having me come back in on Tuesday for another ultrasound and after we will be scheduling surgery. She seems to believe that I have Adenomyosis due to my symptoms and also the size of my cervix she said the only way to cure this is to do a hysterectomy . Which I am completely ok with because I do not want any more children. At first she said about maybe doing a partial but I have a friend who had a partial and is having more problems now then before she had the surgery, I also do not want to take the risk of me getting anything again on my other ovary.

That's good, that you had a good dr who took her time to explain.

Yes I would push for a full hysterectomy, I had one years ago, but they left my ovaries and although I had one removed I still have the other one.

I've gone through menopause so it's no use really.

I was 42 when I had mine and never looked back, hope you do as well.
