Concerned - advice required.

Hi everyone, I recently had protected sex (Thursday) but afterwards within about 10 hours started to feel run down, flu like symptoms. (All my house mattress currently have flu) It's now Saturday and I've noticed 5 little pimple like bumps on my thigh, I'm concerned and have kind of assumed that this is actually herpes. It doesn't really itch or burn. But I ended up shaving some of the hair to get a better look and now it's a tad sore. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It is poss you have flu but the sores you have themselves rings alarm bells. It would be irresponsible to not get them checked out as this is why people spread Herpes because they ignore the signs. Get it checked out by a GP whilst you have the sores and before they heal x

      Hi mjm,

I've booked an appointment for tomorrow, but overnight the little pimples have already started to receded and at closer inspection I found hairs buried inside each red pimple, making me assume it was a clump of ingrown hairs? (Is that me grasping at straws?)

I'm still going to go get checked out to be 100% sure.

Thanks again for any advice you can offer.

Could well be in growing hairs but whilst the blisters are open they should be able to get a swab. My GP told me mine didn't look like GH at all but unfortunately she was wrong 😔 but luckily I insisted on a test!

I agree with mjm, I would definately get it checked out by your GP.

When you say you had protected sex, was that with your partner wearing a lubricated condom, or that you used a spermicidal foam in and around the vaginal entrance?

When did these spots appear and how long after intercourse or series of events involving penetration?

These spots or even rash that you have experienced , could be  just an allergic reaction to either of the spermicides. However if they are more like small cycst like spots, albeit small, definately get it checked by you GP.

Providing they are not causing pain as opposed to being just "itchy" then I doubt that there is anything serious going on.

      Hi Chirsr,

Thanks for getting back to me, I've attached an image of the location / inflimation. The spots are the only thing that I haven't accidently caused myself over the last day or so.

(I put a bandage over the area to see if they were weeping at all into the bandage and when I pulled the tape off took a fair amount of hair towards the inside of the thingh which then caused the area surrounding the spots to become rather raw, not my finest hour, I think thats also is possibly what itching down there more than the actual spots).

When I had sex, it was with a casual partner, it was with a condom and lube and was a tad rough, so I'm wondering if that could of caused the small blisters on my thigh. The spots appeared roughly 48 hours after intercourse. (I have googled that it is possible after that amount of time, but can't tell if its extremely common).

Inside each of the spots there was a small hair as well that I have now removed, I don't know if this was the best idea, but I had read that they needed to cleared out if they were present for ingrown hairs.

Theres also currently no signs of rash or similar marks on my penis or any other location after 36 hours.

Any additional advice would be great to hear.

      Thanks again.

If you used a condom that would more than likely save the penis from the infection if it is one but you can't stop the infection from a women other than on the penis from what I can gather. (If that makes sense) 😁

It's easier for a women to infect men than it is for a man to infect a women using a condom.

Ibe had in growing hairs before but only usually one at a time not a small cluster like that. Assuming friction burns would normally cause a rash and not blisters. If the GP swabs you tomorrow the results are normally back in a week. They say that symptoms are usually worse on a female than a male too.

Hope this helps. I'm newly diagnosed but I've searched the web left right and centre and happened to know more than my GP after 24 hours of research 😞 xx

      Hi mjm,

I have been googling this pretty much none stop for 2 days now. (The annoying thing of finding the first signs on a saturday morning with no GUM clinic open till monday).

The thing I did get reassured by was a doctor online saying that if hair was present inside the spots that it most likely wasn't herpes as it usually doesn't appear under hair folicules, that plus the fact that they aren't sensative at all / when popped produce a thick white waxy consistancy has made me feel hopeful. I might just be being nieve and trying to keep my head up though.

I'm just really unsure now, feel like it'll be another rather sleepless night till I see the GP tomorrow morning.

It doesn't seem to have spread, and I assume that because you have shaved close the base of the shaft of the penis and interface with pelvic bone there are no other irritations near by?

How irritating is the rash; is it sore or just itchy?

If you just rub your finger over the area, does the actual "spot" feel raised?

If it is, then it may well be that as MJM suggests, blocked hair follicles, where the pubic hair is trying to emerge.

The other thought that crossed my mind, and that is only because I suffer from severe genetic acne; could it be an acne scar, which has come to the surface but not errupted and is receding?

Do you suffer from acne whether it be only on the face, or as in my case the whole of the back and face?

Is your skin as a whole greasy, which is the case with me.

Sometimes (and this may sound a little odd) but I have to shave my forehead, not because there is hair in situ.

As you probably know, when you use a bladed razor as opposed to an electric one, the blade actually takes a slither of dead skin off the surface, and in the process excess oil.

When you used the razor to investigate this and provide the image, did it hurt when the hair was cut, and was there any discharge?

If it was like a thickish cream like excreation (think of tooth paste but being squeezed through the width of a pin), then it could be something as simple as acne which has temporarily spread to that area and will go away again.

Don't beleive that acne is to do with personal hygine, it is more to do with the sabaceous glans providing to much oil which becomes waxed when it is oxidized upon exposure to air, on the surface the hair folicle.

I have had situations where a full acne cyst( and quite large) has emerged in my groin (not the penis shaft or scrotum), and when squeezed, the eruption carried both blood and the white corpuscles which are in the blood stream which fight of bacteria.

This can often be due to urine running down the shaft of the penis and in to the scrotal area. Urine is an alkali so irritating and can trigger a rash even with a small amount of say a "drip" or two.

Providing you are not in pain either now or when you urinate, it seems to be benign.

Again, I am no doctor, so the only real advice I can give, is to get checked out with your doctor soonest.

I meant to explain the reason for shaving my forhead -smile

Becasue I use a manual razor which uses blades, the way these are set in the head of the razor is designed to take away dead skin with it so you feel fresher.

In my case it also takes the grease away with it.

So although there is no hair to take away, it clears the grease from the surface of the skin to stop the acne moving further across my face, even though there are no hair follicles. Again it makes my skin feel more fresh.

      Hi Chirsrs,

I have had a few spots down there before, but never in a clump like these ones, hence my instant panic after having a sexual encounter a day or so before they showed up, along with the flu everything just felt terrible.

I'm in no real discomfort, a tiny bit of itching when moving around,  similar to stuble rash, but when stationary I don't feel a thing. My symptoms feel more like things that I've caused myself, like putting a bandage over the spots and accidently removing a fair chunk of hair.

Along with this I've started to get paranoid and everything that I feel I think is a symptom, and I'm not 100% convinced by my paranoid googling. For example my nausea only started after googling my symptoms, same with the muscle aching. (And had been out drinking the night before).

When I did pop one of the spots as well, it was a hard white toothpaste like fluid, as you said, which reassured me again that it didn't seem like herpes and the hairs inside each of the spots kind of backed up the follicol thing.

As of this morning the signs have pretty much completely dissapared, (Only 2 small red marks remain, probably more so from me fidling with them and prolonging the issue).

I'll let you know how everything goes at the GP I guess. smile
