Concerns Again

Back in 2017 I had posted on this forum regarding some symptoms I had been having for a while which consisted primarily of abdominal pains and stool inconsistencies. My doctor had me do a barium enema and CEA test which was all normal. I also followed up with a visit to the GI specialist which did other blood tests and a test for h pylori (all negative).

Convinced it was really IBS I let it rest. Now late last year (November) I went to the bathroom and saw alot of blood on the toilet paper after passing stool. I did feel like something hard was passed out. I went to my GP which examined me and said he didnt see a tear and it could be an internal hemorrhoid.

I still have abdominal discomfort and my stool does seem to still be inconsistent. I have noticed what seems to be light red streaks in my stool but nothing bright red. I can't really identify anything in my diet which could be causing this. Needless to say, I'm yet again very much worried.

All this concern come about especially because I now know through research that barium enemas are not as effective as colonoscopies at identifying the "bad stuff". I want a colonoscopy but need to schedule another appointment with the GI and then I'll need to get the funds together as its alot more expensive. All this has me constantly concerned. Wanted to reach out to the community for some thoughts.

Hi Mike-what country are you from as you say you have too raise funds. Are you from the states. The blood does sound like Hemorrhoid which you can get if you strain yourself too much.I also think that you are suffering from IBS because when you over strain yourself when you are in the toilet and see red streaks of blood this is causing your Hemorrhoid. How old are you?

Hi, thanks for the reply! I'm from Jamaica. I don't have enough money yet for one so just a bit of saving and no insurance. Lately I dont think I have been straining I have been going to the bathroom effortlessly.

Sounds like a haemorrhoid if you are straining for a bowel movement. This is common with IBS C. Haemorrhoid blood is bright red. With IBS, the symptoms do not go away for good. They can come and go in flare ups due to stress or food intolerances. Since you are worrying, this will flare up abdominal pain and bowel habit change if you have IBS. Ask your doctor to do a rectal examination by hand to see if he can feel any internal haemorrhoids. A colonoscopy would pick them up too. Try a stool softener to make stools easier to pass and eat lots of fruit. IBS does not show on any scan or test. Try a food diary to identify food triggers. Do not worry!

I only recall straining a little bit once that one time I saw the bunch of red blood but these days I don't think I do. Just notice the stools seem to have a little bit of red streaks.

Thanks for the advice, hoping for the best.

The other possibility is that if you are eating anything with a red colour, this could colour your stool red if the food has not digested properly.Consider this too.
