Conerned about synacthen test

Hi,

I am due to go for a short synacthen test. I checked online and discovered someone had suffered a ruptured vein in their bowel within hours of this test, so I was wondering if there was an alternative test. I have a tumor on my puitary gland and the endocrinologist wants to check me for Addisons disease.

I have terrible night sweats and have also started having sweats during the day. My blood pressure has always been low but since having recent surgery, I have been diagnosed as having postural hypertension. I feel quite odd at times which causes me to feel panicky as I have never felt this way before. I also have extreme fatigue which hits me out of the blue. One minute I feel fine, the next I have to sit down immediately and then can't do anything for the remainder of the day.

Thanks for reading.

Hi,I am also waiting for a Synacthen test, as I had my left Adrenal gland removed 3  weeks ago, to check the right one is working. I see your post was 9 months ago, so you must have had it by now. I hope your condition has improved. carolyn.

      Hi Carolyn,

I still havent had my test yet due being on a course of streroids for my Asthma, each time my appointment came. They said I couldnt have the test while taking them. Because I had to cancel twice, I then  wasnt allowed another appointment. I am now waiting for my follow up appointment in July with the consultant and hopefully he can suggest an alternative. Cocco

Hi You've probably had the test by now. Just had it done, quite straight foward no worries and only took one hour. Though I am confused as the doctor wanted me to start taking steiods before the test. I would rather know what the problem is first before taking drugs even though I feel dreadful. Hope it went well for you.
