How would I be sure this does not tweet, FB or other?  Does this site have confidentiality?  Seeing the icons, I'm quite disappointed.   For a forum as such, this is not make sense.

Well a good start would be to not sign up for this kind of site using your real name as it would appear you ahve.

I'm sure their TOS are listed somewhere. I don't understand your question fully.

We are all participants on this forum.  Go to your profile page, then scroll right to the bottom of it - there is a link to help and faqs.  Click on that and then it will show you a new page with a link for 'contact support'.  Ask them to put your mind at rest.

I would also suggest you go onto your profile page again and change your user name to something that no-one will recognise.

I don't feel that anything information is linked to FB or any other of the social media sites.  The icons are there for those who WISH to participate in social media and generally keep up to date with information on the Patient site and not the forums.

Do not be disappointed with seeing icons.  I cannot think of any website or forum that would not have the icons showing!  Love or hate social media, it is part of how companies 'advertise' that they exist.  It doesn't mean anything unless you click on them and agree to join social media.

If you are ANY doubt, however, I would suggest that you close your account here.  It is not worth you losing sleep over....

    This is from the FAQs....

Is my information private in the forums?← Discussion Forums

There is a statement on every reply box which states, "Anything you post in these forums is publicly visible. Don't include information you're not comfortable sharing in public." As per the T&Cs any information we collect about you is used for administration of the forums only and is not passed on or revealed by patient.co.uk.

The only time any personal details will be posted in the forums is if you include them in a post which we strongly advise against. We will remove details such as email addresses and phone numbers if we see them or if they are reported to us. We also recommend using a nickname that will not easily identify you, ie not your real name or a username you have used on other websites.

If you wish to exchange personal details with another user then you can use the Private Message service.

    Hi,

As Joanna has said we do not recommend using your name as the "Nickname" which is what displays on the site. You can change it by going to

    https://patient.info/forums/me/settings

    and clicking "Update your details".

The forums are completely separate from FB, Twitter etc but they are open to anyone using the internet to view, read or join so if you are worried you need to change your nickname.

    Regards,

    Alan

HI Justin. I repeat what other people have replied....do not use your real name. My name is NOT Robin and 2015 is by chance..we never reveal our age or real name or where we live unless we choose to do so. this is actually very discrete I find and have enjoyed giving advice to recovering alchoholics since Feb 2015. By Dec 3 yrs no drinking. What is your story?
