Confused !!!!!!!!!

My husband was told by his chiropodist late last year that he had a form of Parkinsons not yet diagnosed, as he has several medical problems we went to see GP who put him in touch with neurologist. At the appointment in January this year he said that in 2009 he had had a stroke, did several blood tests and CT scan which he said showed significant damage to brain due to previous mini strokes that he would not have known about. Unfortunately the Specialist has left and we saw another who said there were 2 areas of damage which was not too bad and stroke was not to blame for tremors he was having. The specialist said that she wanted him to have MRI and nerve tests and whilst waiting for appt to take Propranolol which the pharmacist refused to provide due to my husband having asthma which we had told her and was listed on medication list we gave her.  We are still awaiting appt but now she wants him to take e Verapamil which we are nervous about, she had said after 1st week of propranolol to take blood pressure and increase dose which when I asked her she said I could do excuse me but I am not medically trained and what would happen if I increased dose and should not have done. I am going to check with pharmacist whether he can take Verapamil before I give them to him has anybody else been on these tablets.

    Hi Karen,

Before taking this medication I would look at the page we have on here about that medication, and if you are still concerned then I would phone your surgery and ask for a second opinion from another doctor, (just ask to see a doctor other than you are registered with) This will then put your mind at rest. People think I have Parkinsons or MS, and they are all wrong because I suffer from a rare nerve condition called Generalised Dystonia, symtoms are similar but the controlling of the disorder is very different and painful

    Hope that helps.

    Les.

I have asthma and have taken Propranolol for some time with no problems. I have cervical dystonia and am currently taking tri-hexiphenidyl (used to control Parkinson tremors) and it is helping with my tremors. I only use small doses as they are sufficient.

    Hey Karen

Okay, so both meds are like beta-blockers for high blood pressure.

This is another good RX site; http://www.drugs.com/verapamil.html

You don't mention his age of whether he is overweight, but I'm thinking (as my husband has it) it's definately NOT Parkinson's. I'm hoping by now you know more of what's going on!!
