Hello sometime last month my neuro diagnosed me with MS because there was multiple lesions on my MRI. But I also seen another neurologist who is a MS specialist and said I don't have it. I do have a long history of migraines I've had them since I was 10 and now I'm 23, he said that chronic migraine can cause the lesions. My initial neuro wants to put me on Tecfidera, is that a good medication?

Tecfidera has worked a treat for me. Been on it a year and a half with no major relapses or new lesions. 2 tablets a day, morning and evening. The major reported side effects (hitting 1 in 10 folk) are flushing, gastrointestinal problems and lymphopenia (reduction in white cell count). I've been lucky. The only side effects I've had have been reduced wbc count. Consultant told me to stop taking it but I've refused as it's working for me and presents fewer risks than the other options offered. My count is now improving. Many people suffer badly from the other side effects and give up. There are also worries about PML, a fatal brain infection following Tecfidera usage lowering white cell count. You need to read up on your options really. The advantages of Tec are that if you're not getting on with it you can stop taking the tablets and it'll be out of your system in 24hrs unlike most of the others. Good luck with it!

Before taking any medication I would first be sure of ur diagnoses . If the ms specialist says u dot have it I would seek a 3rd opinion just to be sure.

Do u have symptoms of MS?

Not that I can recall, the only thing that I can think of is sometimes muscle weakness but I also was told that my vitamin d deficient can cause that, which are a 7. I'm definitely going to get a third opinion. My primary care doctor wants me to go to UCSF neurology department. My O-bands also came back negative.
