Confused About Results

So, I have always had these bumps on my vulva area. I have gone to doctors and they have always told me that they were cyst, pimples, and or ingrown hairs. I have been in 3 long term relationships (2-4), and had sex with someone a handful of times and a one night stand. This past Septmember I shaved and then ended up shaving a week later and got all these crazy bumps down there. Some that hurt, some that didn't. I went to my obgyn and she looked and said that one of them was open, so she did a viral culture swab just to make sure. It came back negative. 2 months later I tried to do better and shaved with an electric shaver, got bumps again. I couldn't get int through to my obgyn and went to my local doctor. She looked at them and said no swab was necessary that they were either pimples or clogged hair folllicles. Fast forward another 2 months I tried shaving with the electric shaver again but just trying to "hover" and trim the hair. Bumps showed up again. Went to my local doctor again and she said they look fine to her. She went ahead and did bloodwork just in case. The bloodwork came back negative for HSV2 but positive for HSV1. She reasurred me that a lot of people have HSV1 without ever having any cold sores (which as far as I can remember I have never had any) and that she was 100% positive I didn't have anything. I went for a second opinon just in case to another OBGYN. He swabbed me for herpes and wants me to take medication as a precaution. He said that they could or could not be herpes. He said that mine don't look like the typical ulcers but everyone is different. I asked if the swab test are reliable and he said yes. So I don't understand why he felt it was necessary to put me on valtrex and swab me again when I already had one negative viral culture. So now I am freaking out. One of the lesions he swabbed looked like a pimple, I popped it about a week ago and yellowish pus came out. It looked like it was healing then yesterday it filled up with this yellow liquid. I popped it and the yellow liquid came out with a little blood. Now it looks really red and irritated with a yellow scab and is senstive to the touch. The other lesion is just red and stung for like 1 minute when I peed one morning but hasn't bothered me since. I feel like I'm losing my mind!

Doesn't sound like you have herpes, but rather sensitive skin to shaving. All of your tests are negative, except HSV1, which is likely oral. Genital HSV1 doesn't typically recur very often like your skin issue. HSV2 can, but you tested negative.

I would rely on the swab test Bc they are the most accurate. Don't freak out too much. I do have a question to ask. Have you experienced any discharge or swollen lymph nodes down there?

Not that I know of. I know that I am very prone to BV and get that like crazy. My mom is the same way. I haven't noticed any discharge in my panties. If it is herpes, I have never noticed any "initial" outbreak or the swollen lymph nodes.

Then you shouldn't need to be worried/confused. Nearly 90% of the population will have antibodies to Hsv1 and will never show any sort of cold sores. So your good!

Thanks! My boyfriend and mother said the same thing. I've been with my current boyfriend for 2 years now and we have had unprotected sex for the last 1.5 years. I know he was negative for both HSV1 and HSV2 when we first started dating. However, I've never been tested for it until this year. It just isn't very reassuring when you ask the obgyn his opinion and he shrugs and replies "It could be herpes or it might not be."
