I'm a 24 yr who ver the past the past ten years I have experienced days where I have had a bad stomach after eating. I did some research on ibs and appear to have the symptoms but only mild. Is there such thing as mild ibs? As I don't have it as often as other suffers or as bad. Thanks.

    Hello Holly,

I understand fully how frustrating it can be with IBS, I was told i had severe ibs. When I spoke to the doctor she did mention that some people get it mildly and other are more severe.

I would definately recommend you to speak to a gp about it, just to confirm it.

Of course you can have it mild. Some have mild, some severe. Some constipation some this that. Some cannot eat such and such others can. And at only 24 you are more likely to have it mild. If you get it sorted now it wont be with you for life and get worse.

More research and experiments needed maybe.

Can I get  medication for it or as it only mild would it be a case of trying a better diet? There doesn't seem to be any particular food that triggers it.  Would things like yakult or peppermint tea be any help? I'm going to be honest but a gp did diagnose me with it but he seemed so uninterested to help me once I mentioned that I couldn't take pills. I was sent on way with nothing.

      Hello Holly,

Yes I found that my gp wasn't great either, but if you want to get answers you really need to explain how it effect your life too.

I found having peppermint oil in my water helped ease the pain and also if I was having cramps, buscapan worked too.

      I hope that helps.

IBS symptoms vary from person to person and range from mild to severe. Most people have mild symptoms. IBS symptoms can include any combination of constipation, diarrhoea gas, bloating, abdominal pain or discomfort, fatigue, and headaches. Because these symptoms occur in many different disorders, other possible causes may have to be ruled out before IBS can be diagnosed.

You are said to have IBS when symptoms are present for at least 3 days a month for a period of 3 months or more. Pain and other symptoms will often be reduced or go away after a bowel movement. The symptoms may get worse for a few weeks or a month, and then decrease for a while. In other cases, symptoms are present most of the time.

You may actually suffer mild IBS symptoms for years before an acute attack sends you to the doctor for relief. For mild IBS symptoms, probiotics are generally considered to be a safe treatment option. Look for a supplement that contains one billion cells per dose.

One billion is a very small dose, most naturopaths would say have at least 10 billion per dose. And make sure you vary the biotics changing them around every few weeks or so too. Once a certain biotic is established in you then unless you are ill or take antibiotics they should remain there. It is also very important to have a prebiotic just before the biotic. Oats is a good one. Something for it to feed on. Onions will also do. Having a prebiotic and then a low dose biotic is more beneficial than a high dose biotic without a prebiotic.
