Confusion following gall bladder obstruction

Mum was admitted to hospital last summer with an obstruction in her pancreas caused by a small gall stone. At the time she was so very confused, you would have thought she had Alzheimer's, which she does not. She underwent a procedure to remove the stone and she improved physically but she repeats herself over and over again. She knows who everyone is but just isn't herself. She's almost 82 and had heart by-pass surgery many years ago. She is too ill apparently for gall bladder removal which doesn't help. Is this common and is there anything we might be able to do to improve things. Thank you.

No, she developed the confusion prior to the ERCP. The hospital initially assumed that was my mums natural state until we were asked. She did have a urine infection also at the time. The following day before her procedure she wasn't so distressed and the pain was under control but she was still very disorientated. Accusing the staff of taking her money and jewellery and she needed to go to the post office etc. She vastly improved after the procedure but she now repeats herself constantly.

Sometimes the anesthesia has some side effects on memory that hangs around for a while. Especially for the older patients bc their livers can’t detox as fast as they used to. Maybe that’s what happened?
