Hi, I am five weeks into conservative Achilles treatment. I've just had a scan and they said there is still a 2cm gap, does anyone know if this is normal?

Hi Jo.
Did you have a scan originally? I had a 3cm gap when they scanned after 2 weeks, having been set in plaster from the start. I needed surgery as the gap was too big to heal naturally. Maybe you are in the same boat?
I ruptured mine 7 months to the day and 6+ months repair. I can now walk but it's still very stiff and the lower leg still can't stretch much. It's a long, slow process. You need patience.
Happy to chat more. Cibby x

Hi cibby, no I didn't have a scan until today, I don't know why they have left it so late, the consultant was quite adamant about the conservative approach. I am s but worried that they are now going to operate and the repair period starts all over again!

You've only lost a month. The recovery will take 6 months plus. Just stay positive and be prepared to be immobile for a while.
