Conservative treatment v surgery

i broke my ankle just over a week ago. just end of tibia and was told while they would normally leave it bit because of ligament damage on the inside i would need surgery to stabilise. they manipulated my ankle before putting in the cast and wheeled up for surgery. was told i was only one on list but of course lots of emergencies came in overnight and i was not able to have it the next day. i was relieved bit then came choices. he said i could stay and have it done the next day or i could be referred to my local hospital to have surgery or we could opt for conservative management and FU closely by local hospital to check it is still aligned. the consultant said when they had manipulated it before casting it was in a much better position. i opted for conservative management. i was confused why the doctor hadnt offered conservative management first but the said in his profession they 'fix' limbs so they often don't offer other options. but the big appointment is tomorrow and well see if there is ok alignment still. im really hoping so as id hate to be at day 1 of recovery only in the next few days. my questions are if anyone else had a similar situation where ankle was treated conservatively or if you started that way, did you have to go for ORIF? if so did it go ok? im seeing many stories on here - not the most positive ones.
