Considering focal laser ablation and have questions

Posted , 16 users are following.

I am thinking of focal laser ablation in Delray Beach, FL. I have a very large prostate (250grams). I did my first interview with the medical coordinator I believe. She said that I would be in the MRI for about 1.5 hours. I just read on this forum somewhere where someone with a prostate size of about 176gr was in the machine for over 3 hours! If that is the case will I be in for the whole day in an uncomfortable position? Any help would be appreciated.

Gary: I had FLA with Dr. K 3 months ago. I am 75 years old. Procedure was total success. I urinate like a 30 year old with no side effects. Interviewed both Dr. K and Dr. Sperling and would recommend Dr. K with no hesitation. Turp is barbaric and never considered it. Dr. K uses latest technology ...a $3 Million Siemens MRI. Compare this with an older model GE which is used in Delray costing $900,000. Obviously you want the best imaging possible and with someone who has both medical and engineering experience like Dr. K. And yes, I live in South Florida, 15 minutes from Delray, but flew to Houston. Could have saved considerable expense with flight and hotel costs.  Good luck with your decision.

Hi, if you are concerned about lying in that position for a long time keep in mind you are very relaxed due to the medication, if your concerned about how long they will mri you the real question is how long the mri is in use while you are in there, I had FLA for bph in particular for an enlarged median lobe done by Dr Karamanian in Houston Texas he is outstanding but I do not know the cost now, there is no harm in asking him for that and more details he is always very willing and very helpful.

Actually, you should want a doctor that will not rush this procedure. The reason for the length of time is that Dr. K checks the MRI film during the procedure from several positions and does it for a number of times to make sure before each time he pulls the trigger on that laser that he is asolutely correct.

Haste make for a poor result and he cares enough about the results to take a lot of time and be sure. Your final Results are his only concern. If you call him, he may have to call you back but he will do just that. With you asking enough questions, you will get the feel for just how good he is.
