Constant Abdominal Pain - Scared it could be cancer :(

Hi,

5 years ago I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done and was told I had erosive gastritis and was put on a course of ranitidine (ranitidine has since been banned/recalled due to increased risk in cancer in animals 😦 ).

There was no follow up and any stomach pain that I did experience after and went to the GP about was put down to gastritis and was prescribed omaprazole. They said I was too young for it to be anything more sinister.

Fast forward to 5 years, the stomach pain is now constant, it wakes me up at night or I find it hard to sleep. I ended up in A&E 2 months ago and they thought it was to do with my bladder/liver/pancreas so had an ultrasound and X-ray. They gave me a course of antibiotics and some metroniprazole and painkillers to take home whilst I waited for results. However all it showed was a lot of trapped wind?

I finished the medicine but the pain hasn’t gone away, it is tiring both mentally and physically because the pain never goes away and it hurts constantly with no relief or break.. Sometimes when I press down I can feel some gas bubbles? I am due to get an endoscopy next Monday but am fearing the worst. What if they missed something 5 years ago and it has been festering since? all my symptoms are pointing to stomach cancer.

I have been reading so many of other peoples experiences on forums and people who are similar in age or younger were diagnosed with very little symptoms which terrifies me and early detection was always key. So many people were told it was inoperable 😦((

I’m feeling really scared and my heart hurts every time I think about my two girls (4 and 6) potentially growing up without a mummy 😦

I have no one to share these fears with so ended up writing a post here - I hope you don’t mind.

I am sorry that you are so scared . try not to predict the outcome because most of what we are worried about never happens. don’t make scary mental movies in your mind. There are so many gastrointestinal issues that come up with people, including pain, with the vast majority being non-serious. And your age is a huge advantage for you! it’s not very often that a younger person has a scary diagnosis like that.

I had gastritis for several years and it was horrible. The pain, unable to eat anything. always taking omeprazole which didn’t really help a lot. . I thought for sure I had erosion and that I had stomach cancer also.

One of the Gastro doctors told me that it takes quite a long time for cancer of the stomach to develop.

The endoscopy was normal so I just wanted you to know that even with that abdominal pain doesn’t mean that it’s anything serious. I thought the same thing. and I am a lot older than you are.

The fact that all your scan showed was trapped wind is very encouraging! so I just wanted to share this with you so that hopefully you can relax a little bit. private message me anytime! ❤
