Constant bleeding - perimenopause? Hysteroscopy needed?

Posted , 121 users are following.

Hi,

I've had continuous bleeding for a few months - the period stops for a few days and then starts again, sometimes with clots.

I had hysteroscopy with biopsy about 1.5 years ago( had then some spotting between periods), didn't feel great for a month after that, and the results were ok, had an ultrasound a few days ago which is ok. Now the gynaecologist suggests another hysteroscopy. Is it necessary to have it? Will I be having them every year until it stops? Are there any other tests to make sure that its perimenopause and nothing sinister?

Thanks

Hi Polly - further to my last post - saw Gyno today and he said yes another D & C and Hysteroscopy - he says things can be hidden and/or missed or the lining can just be fed rapidly by hrtsad So looks like a Mirena and cream estrogen for me - damn! Good lucksmile

I had a inner ultrasound and regular one, cat scan and xrays of stomach, uterus and ovaries as well as blood work and all came back negative after bleeding for 26 days straight. I started women's one a day vitamins to get some energy and the bleeding stopped two days after I started taking them. I've haven't seen any sighn of blood in 4 days and I'm praying it doesn't come back anytime soon

I am so glad to have found this discussion but I'm still really nervous I have no insurance and I have not had a pap smear done since I was 15 and I'm now 34 I have been bleeding extremely heavy for about 3 weeks straight with severe clotting I'm about to go to the emergency room but I've been a nervous wreckhaving read this discussion I feel a little better and I just wanted to thank everyone for that but do you think at 34 years old I'm too young to be going through perimenopause I don't have any children and I'm scared that this means I'm never going to have any do any of you know if once you're at this point it's possible to have children still?

I am so grateful to have found this thread...I had periods like clockwork until a few months ago...now, age 50 I have been bleeding for 21 days...started with spotting for 10-14 days and then the great flood happened 9 days ago...still having very heavy bleeding and have felt weak and unwell.  I tried an iron supplement which made me feel very sick - and not just nausea but made me feel poorly overall.

It is just comforting to know that others are experiencing the same thing...Makes me less worried...However it was not comforting to see that this could go on for quite some time...I will have to resort to herbal remedies since pharmaceuticals always cause strong, negative side effects for me.

My periods were like clockwork as well. I never had any issues at all. To say that I was blindsided, is an understatement. I had never bled this heavy before in my life. I don't mind taking the mini pill to keep mine under control. I'm very lucky that I don't have any side effects from the pill. I just take it everyday, and it keeps my periods light and sometimes I go 4 months without one at all. I will keep taking them until I go into menopause

Hi mine started at 38 I'm now 49 and been peri menopause 11 years did have 7 months without a period then the period from hell, it lasted 3 months and very heavy.

It's best for the doctors to check your hormone levels, so you know what's going on .

      Hope this helps

i have been bleeding on and off bleeding for weeks out of a month from heavy bleeding to light to spotting to 2 or 3 days of no bleeding. i went had an ultrasound, had blood tests done, had an edimitro biopsy done and all came back normal, no fibroids or cysts the biosy came back that the lining was thickening but otherwise norman. my uterus is big and she had only a stupid answer for it being enlarged. all in all in other words she suggested to continue with the bleeding, deal with it because hystorectomy was out of the question since everything came out negative. i am going for  a second opionion a different gyn on Wed hoping they can help me because heavy, normal or spotting since April 5th is unacceptable. I refuse to have only 2 normal days. the summer is coming and i can never tell when it is going to come down heavy or be light. i can't make plans in advance. i have cancelled so many activities do to this nonsense. i will keep you posted.

Hi-I was wondering how things are going with you. I have been spotting and lightly bleeding for months with full blow periods in between-a couple flooding incidents as well which was horrible. YES-nonsense is right!!

?I am trying to get my courage up to go in for a check up but I am not looking forward to the inevitable testing they will want to do. I will be 55 this year so definitely the right age. I am 99% sure all this is due to peri but the anxiety gets the best of me. Glad I found this thread and seeing others are dealing with the same thing.  Hope you are doing better.

      Hi Priska

Just hijacking your post as you sound similar to me, ie normal periods with spotting inbetween.   Having had a lifetime of textbook perfect periods exactly every 28 days this strange behaviour, frankly, terrified me.  I read similar stories from others who were all OK however, lke you, I still had a nagging anxiety so I did go to the doctors and I am so, so glad.  Had an ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy which were all normal and its massively reassuring.  I don't know why I midcycle spot but I do know its not for any nasty reason.

I would encourage you to do the same because the sense of relief is enormous.  Take a calendar of your cycle pattern and spotting and speak to your doctor.  See what they say.  It is comforting reading similar posts but a professional telling all is well is much much better.  I was really afraid of the tests because of things Id read but honestly they arent that bad and was just to rule things out.

Good luck and take care x

      Hi there

?thanks for your post! I've had trouble getting my posts to go through-thats why I havent updated.

?I hear you about the reassurance. Here is where its at with me. After my ultrasound appointment my GP called and said it wed very thick uterine lining and that I needed to go see a Gynecologist which I did. She wanted to do a biopsy but I told her that I was really scared of it ( good to hear you saying that it wasnt that bad) and I wou prefer to be put out. So now I am waiting to schedule a D&C with a hysteroscopy. I actually had to see another Gyn because he first one doesnt do the procedure and I askd why after a lifetime of normal regular periods a of a sudden my lining would grow this thick all of a sudden. She looked the report and said they actually couldn't really tell what was there-could be polyps or whatever so I think I made the right choice  but the wait is killing me. Anxiety hits me in waves. I am so happy it all turned out ok for you-thats great to hear. I hope it will be the same for me.

?Sorry I couldnt get any updates to go through-i am not sure what the problem is. There is still post I wrote that are waiting to be approved.

?Take care and big hugs to everybody.

I'm 53 and had a uterine ablation 5 years ago. I still had a period, but they were very light and lasted only 3 days. Now, my periods are back with a vengeance, not as bad as before the ablation, but clotting and heavy. I bled for two weeks, then when the bleeding stopped I had a brown discharge for almost a month, then a regular period. However, the period has lasted 10 days so far with heavy bleeding and clots on and off. At 53 I thought I would be settling down to no periods, instead I'm having them longer and heavy even after having the ablation 5 years ago. The part that worries me is the brown discharge for a month. It's like what you may get before or after a period. Anyone else experience this?

Hi a friend of mine had ablation and the same thing happened with brown discharge she went back to see the doctor and he offered her another one, she only had light periods when hers restarted but the discharge just seemed to go on for weeks

      Hope this helps

This sounds just like what my friend is going through..except all her ultrasounds and blood tests keep coming back normal. She's had her period for 3 months now, but her doctors say they don't know what's wrong and don't seem to want to do any more study into it. The only difference from you guys, is she's only 28. Anyone have any advice for her?
