Constant bleeding - perimenopause? Hysteroscopy needed?

Posted , 121 users are following.

Hi,

I've had continuous bleeding for a few months - the period stops for a few days and then starts again, sometimes with clots.

I had hysteroscopy with biopsy about 1.5 years ago( had then some spotting between periods), didn't feel great for a month after that, and the results were ok, had an ultrasound a few days ago which is ok. Now the gynaecologist suggests another hysteroscopy. Is it necessary to have it? Will I be having them every year until it stops? Are there any other tests to make sure that its perimenopause and nothing sinister?

Thanks

Hi just wondering has anyone come out the other end without going to the doctors?? Like has it stopped for anyone on it's own - without going to the doctors? or having tests? Does it actually go away by itself?? I've been bleeding for about 80+ days now, light to med & now more often flooding. Regular all my life up to March of this year and then all hell broke out! It started as I just turned 50 1/2. From reading here, which is a god send, I dont feel too bad. Trying not to go to the doctors and try ride it out - but would like to know if there is such a thing in relation to this!! Not experiencing anything irregular with it - energy grand, no pain or soreness and I'm happy at the moment!!! I have a friend who started the menopause last year & she is my go-to-guinea-pig but she hasnt got this - loads of other stuff but not any excessive bleeding or constant. Thanks for all your posts as it really did calm me down a good bit!!!! It really is a man's world lol

Yes! My constant bleeding stopped after I started taking iron and b12 supplements. I am 46. Not sure if it was going to stop anyway, but for now I’m back to (fairly) normal periods.

      Hello

Ive been having light bleeding everyday ( mostly when I wipe after using the toilets) for one months ! Last week it stopped one day and it came back. I don't know when it's supposed to stop! Every time I go to the toilets I feel anxious!

I'm going to the gyne on Tuesday. I'm 51 and my period has been very regular so far.

It started to become funny in March.

I must admit that I'm really scared that the gyne might find something abnormal because bleeding everyday is not something common isn't it?

    Hi,

So so glad that I'm not the only one suffering this. I'm actually worrying myself to despair.

I've been bleeding 4 weeks and 3 days. I went to the docs this Monday and he asked me to see the nurse next weds for a swab test and bloods. He asked me if I'd been passing. Lots which I hadn't but when I got home, low and behold. Big clots. I put it down to doing too much that day. Then since then I've been passing bigger clots. I rang the docs today and I see him tomorrow morning. I've had a scan a few months ago to test fir menopause but it was negative.  I'm very worried. I'm 46.

I know this is a super old thread but looks like people are still following so I wanted to post about my experience.

I am 41 (almost 42) and I noticed changes in my periods since my second was born when I was 35. Cycles became shorter and like clockwork. I also started having ovulation pain. But it is not until recently that I started becoming concerned.

Late last year (2017) I had midcycle spotting a couple of times. So I went to see GYN who sent me for an ultrasound. The ultrasound found some fluid in my uterus, so I had to go and get another one. The next one had no fluid, but now there were a couple of cysts on my ovaries. Uterus looked normal on both occasions. GYN was not concerned because I had cysts in the past so was normal for me. He suggested birth control pills but I didn't take these as 'better the devil you know'.

Fast forward to this month. I got my period 9 days ago, and I am still bleeding. It started heavy, after 3 days it was tapering off in a normal way, but then on day 8 there was fresh blood again (not heavy but enough for me to put a pad in). It's still there today although not as heavy.

I know some of you ladies have been bleeding for a LOT longer than this. I've booked an appointment with my GP next week to discuss this. Wish someone could confirm to us that this is all 'just' perimenopause. Right now, when something like this happens I worry it is the big C that is not being diagnosed.

I see this thread is old but I think it will be used for many years to come and its vital it stays here for us ladies and new posts are added to re-assure.

I have read it from start to finish ha ha ..

I am 49, started to have heavy periods but as the increase was so gradual over the years, I didnt realise how bad they had become. Then around 2 years ago my hair started to fall out , I went into a panic. I rarely go to the Doctors but hair loss,, (I have long hair ) scared me . Doctor advised lets get a good blood works done . All results were fine but Ferritin was rock bottom at 7 (my heavy period had been slowing draining me).. so I then started iron supplments . To try and help reduce my period flow, I was given Tranexamic Acid Tablets.. These worked for a while but then not so much and I noticed periods again getting heavier and heavier even during night time when sleeping and I was worried my ferritin would start to drop again,, its a long process increasing ferritin, i am still trying to increase it .. my last test had be up to 27 in two years of supplment taking .. .. I am still taking iron now .

So, I revisited Doctors and ask for alternative to Tranexamic , as they were no longer affective. I was given the mini pill. This worked ok,, period a lot lighter. I also was trying natural remedies as I was reluctant to take hormones .. after taking Maca Root for some 8 weeks I decided to stop the mini pill and see if the Maca was working,, but it hadnt as I had far heavier period that following month , so I shrug and go back on to the mini pill but this time the mini pill did not lessen period (worked before like a charm , why not after just a one month break) ... Now I too have been bleeding everyday for over a month. My period came , seemed to end but then a slow dark brown bleed ,, much of nothing but painful cramping with the slow brown bleed. I contacted Doctor she advised me to have examination in the surgery to see what the cervix looked like and to see if they could feel anything untoward. The examination was fine.. all seemed ok , Doctor said she could see some of blood on my cervix but other than that all ok but to book in for a smear test soon as it had been some time. (when do i do this when i am bleeding everyday,, surely this will affect the swab sample?)

Ever since the examination 2 weeks ago , the bleed become a bit more intensive, what was a slow brown bleed turning very red (fresh blood). I am not flooding and I have just had a week of heavier bleeding , which I assume was my period based on my mini pill day count.. this period again should now be over, but I am still bleeding , again not much but the blood is bright , some times very watery and still constant cramping , or how I would describe, a clawing or gnawing sensation low down..

I also was suffering from dryness down below so I also take Vagifem (low dose estrogen) vaginal inserts to help,, which seem to now work (this only started in December) .But now I am worried if the hormones pills are sending me into the prolonged bleeding ? I am going to speak to my Doc again Wednesday as my Ferritin is once again going to be dropping as long as I continue to bleed.

Also, I have been offered the Mirena coil , I am not too sure how different this is to the mini pill I am taking, given right now the mini pill isnt working I dont see how a Mirena coil will either , will it stop my bleeding? and is it possible to have one fitted whilst bleeding? if I knew it would work, I would go for it even though I am a big wuss when it comes to being fiddled with and the thought of coil in my younger days made me cringe lol ..

My feeling is I will be referred eventually for more tests as per the ones I have read here.. 😫

trying to bring this thread back to life as i am also experiencing the same problems

im 50. was about 12 daya late in September for period. period came and never left. went to dr he saw a follicle on my ovary , said it was because i did not release an egg.

he put me on medroxyprogestrone. worked for a bit but now im bleeeing again. sometimes light with nothing at all, but i get these bouts with clots and heavy bleeding while the clots pass. once they pass , its only spotting. why would i bleed like this on that med ?

he wants to do a d and c in 2 weeks. if it wont stop this bleeding than i dont want to waste time. then i had to go to him last monday for a re check and he scares me to death saying he hopes its nothing serious. I dont think a dr should say something so stupid to a patient. he now has me scared out of my wits. but reading this thread, makes me feel this is a common problem at mt age

i just want this to go away and never come back.
