Hi, im 29yr old man and i have had constant constipation for 6 months now. Ive tried many therapies and only milk of magnesium works 2tbsp twice a day and I can only go liquid form. List my urge to go to. When milk of mag doesnt work u need to do a mag cit clon cleanse. I have abdominal cramping, bloat, twinges, fluid pool build in lower right abdomen and sometimes left. Burping often and all kinds of noises. Sometimes mucus. I just had a colonoscopy, fair prep but adequit g.i. says he had good visual through out after suction and saw nothing bad. Now im having a barium xray and ultrasound tomorrow. IM AFRAID IM GONA DIE FROM KIDNEY FAILURE FROM THE MAGNESIUM EVERYDAY before they find root cause. Please reply! Thank you.

I understand what you're going through. I've had constipation for several months now and no matter what I do I can't seem to find a long-term fix. It really is debilitating and it certainly affects quality of life, both physically and mentally.
I wouldn't worry too much about kidney failure. But taking milk of magnesium for too long can cause your system to become dependent on it for bowel movements.
Have you tried to increase your level of dietary fibre, levels of physical activity? Try using lactulose in conjuction with some ispaghula husk.

I hope everything works out for you. Good to hear you're clean. If you don't mind me asking what were you abusing?
I'm on opiate medication and I think that's the result of my problem. It really is horrible, nothing seems to work. I have to force myself to go through a painful ordeal.
Here in the UK, it takes close to a lifetime to get an appointment with a doctor in the London area.

Same here, I used to have an abuse problem, I'm past that now, got clean on my own accord, a few days of methadone and then I rattled the rest of it out. I'm glad I got out when I did.
I had to go through quite a few doctors before I found one who cared, I'm happy with the guy I have now. But the healthcare system in the UK is close to collapse to be honest.
Constipation can be scary, it also worries me, it's not natural carrying that waste around for however many days. It really can affect the quality of life, both physically and mentally.
It's got to a point where I avoid using the toilet because of the pain. But the longer you delay the drier and harder the stool becomes.

I always start to get a sharp pain in my kidneys when I go more then three or four days without a movement.
Plus, you might lose your appetite and anything you eat puts further pressure on your intestinal tract.
I'm trying some digestive enzymes and milk of magnesia, apparently it's supposed to help.
Plus I'm taking some liquid fibre supplements to help bulk up the stools. Although more fibre won't help impacted faeces, it will help everything that's currently be digested. I've been constipated on and off for almost a year.
I had a movement yesterday, I had to force myself because of the pain I was getting in and around my abdominal area. After about 30 minutes I managed to pass some extremely hard lumps.
Which so far has released some of the bloating and most of the pain.

I take it every other day, just to keep on top of things getting backed up. In the days you don't take it try a fibre supplement.

Laxatives are temporary fix and sustained long term use will only be detrimental to your natural rhythm.

Like I said it will take a myriad of various tests to determine the cause. If the miralax is working, I'd continue taking it as needed, until the cause of the problem is determined.

The key is to mix things up, alternate between different drugs so as to prevent a build up of tolerence.
