Constant dizziness for 7 weeks now

Good Morning.

In early january i woke up with an intense stiff neck, so bad i needed help out of bed and a constant dizzy sensation.

Ive had ears syringed, given serc and stemitil but nothing has stopped this so I got reffered to ENT.

Tuesday I had a medical examination off ENT who said ive had a virus int he labryinth which has probably left nerve damage.

Ive been given VRT to do and told to go back in 2-3 months if no better.

I am getting the occasional headache and pain in my neck still.

Has anyone suffered with this and been cured by the VRT exercises? I feel like ive been fobbed off.

Your ENT sounds more sensible than most. VRT helps the brain compensate for the damage. Everyone has different % of improvement. We have not found any magic pills.

    Hi there

Labyrinthitis can last weeks, months, even years....VRT is the only way to go to retrain your brain. It's horrible at first and makes you feel worse but stick with it. Meds don't help really.

I've had it twice....keep as active as you can. Good luck!

      Hi Debbie

I've been suffering from vertigo for the last week. I'm thinking it's BPPV from what I've read. It was slowly improving but I was still feeling dizzy on certain head movements so I decided to try VRT ( cawthorne technique ) and now I feel awful. Vertigo much worse when I move my head or try to walk. Is this normal after these exercises? Quite worried now 😟

Have you been to an ENT? Is your vertigo like a spinning sensation or do you feel like you are on a boat?

I saw an ENT last November but by the time I saw him my symptoms had gone.

This time I woke last week having turned over in bed like the bed and room was spinning and was very nauseous and even vomited.

Now I feel like I'm trying to walk on a boat (good description) but also feel lightheaded/dizzy whenever I move my head.

Sounds like BPPV....the crystals in your ear have dislodged....even your GP can test for this. Book an appt with your GP and get checked out. Do you have any other symptoms?

No not really. I do suffer with migraine and had a migraine before the vertigo started. I just feel tired but I think that's just coping with the dizzyness.

There is a condition called MAV....migraine associated vertigo. A friend of mine has this as well. Get yourself checked out ok?

Oops, I asssumed you had rule out tests, VNG, BPPV, Epley moves and such.

I was tested for BBPV but didnt have the eye movments, he did say if no better when i go back that they will do scans.

Do these exercises get rid of it completely?

Im back in work today for first time in 7 weeks and intend to get back to my sports next week, football, running and karate, the specialist said these were fine to continue. Im determined to not let it stop me now.

Although I dont think i have the dizziness as bad as majority on here im wondering if this means it will heal quicker? I do have the odd headaches and head tingling. Are these symptoms of what ive been assesed with?

That's certainly possible but I would recommend you get a neck x ray as well to rule out an actual problem there. There are a variety of problems in and around the neck that cause the same symptoms.

I'm at least glad that your ENT has a reasonable explanation and didn't just say your tests were clean.

Luckily my GP did an exray and it was clear, I went private to an oesteopath who realigned some bones in the spine, things felt better but still not right.

The ENT guy was fantastic, explained everything and said these exercises will make it better. Id just like to read here some success stories?
