Constant facial numbness caused by anxiety?

Posted , 3 users are following.

For a while now, I've been dealing with facial numbness. It's not completely numb, more of just a decreased sensation. I had brought it up to my doctor today but she didn't seem too concerned about it because I didn't have any other symptoms that could point to anything serious. She said that since I've been struggling with pretty bad anxiety, that could most likely be the cause. If not that, then because I've been severely fatigued. I understand getting facial numbness in times of panic or high anxiety, but can anxiety still be causing it even though it's constant throughout the whole day?

Mine is as well. She also said it could be a neuropathy but didn't refer me to any neurologist, so I don't think she thought that was as likely as the anxiety. Hopefully we'll both get better answers soon.

I'm currently on 50mg Zoloft and going to therapy every week. However, the numbness/decreased sensation began before taking the medication.

Have you had any explanation of your numbness/decreased sensation. ?

My doctor said it is most likely anxiety, extreme fatigue or from my bad cystic acne. She said that since my motor skills and speech seem fine, she wouldn't be too concerned about it. However, it's certainly frustrating not being able to rule anything out or know for sure what it's from.

Have you anything to treat your Cystic Acne, if She could get that cleared for you that would be good.

Have you seen a Dermatologist? you may get some luck there.

I actually just scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist! It'll be a few months but yes, hopefully I'll get some luck and get it treated finally. Maybe they'll be able to tell me if the numbness could be due to that as well.
