Constant headache a month after stroke?

Hey all. On September 27, my mother rushed my stepdad to the emergency room. They determined that he had an ischemic stroke. He had a 99% blockage in his carotid artery and he had emergency surgery. They said that his brain had been cut off from oxygen for 24 hours. He's 38 years old. He lived, but they said that if it had been 30 minutes later it would have been a much different day.

Ever since then, he has had a constant headache. He says it's incredibly painful and almost unbearable. Is this normal? Should we take him back to the hospital?
